Free Left 4 Dead 2 characters come to Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Four more iconic characters join our list of 4 left 2 dead as Coach, Ellis, Nick and Rochelle prepare to fight the hordes once more, this time in Zombie Army 4.

We loved watching you explore beautiful Abrunza and the twisting corridors of Abaddon Asylum, so we wanted to provide a few more details on Alpha Squad’s upcoming zombie-smashing adventure and offer a little behind-the-scenes glimpse into the minds of our art. and design teams and how they brought the next mission to life.

We’ll pick up where we left off, with players ripping out the Baron’s heart before getting caught in his trap in “Back to Hell.” As the name implies, Umbra pushes our intrepid squad back to Hell … but not exactly as you know it from the main campaign. This time, you must break through the haunted manifestations of Schweiger’s mind, reliving the twisted amalgamations of his memories as you try to free him from the baron’s clutches.

Our final mission for this trilogy continues with our theme from Season 3, pushing towards a more open and ‘sandbox-y’ gaming experience. We wanted to make sure players had a great deal of replayability, so this time the first section of the level is divided into 3 expansive arenas, connected by a series of maze-shaped catacombs.

Each game randomizes the sequence in which they take place and the enemy composition of the various encounters, which greatly helps with the twisted and distorted theme and means that no two games are alike. Speaking of enemies, we’ve had a great excuse to introduce you to a wide variety of unpleasant (both familiar and not-so-familiar) to take their heads off, although don’t always expect that to stop them!

For our images, we drew heavily from Zdzisław Beksiński’s hellish dream landscapes to make our environments feel dark and oppressive. This abstract theme really allowed our art team to go out of their way to create a visual language that we may not be able to get away with in dead war-torn Italy.

Each ‘arena’ focuses on one of Schweiger’s key memories and as you move through the catacombs and get closer to your next objective, our environments reflect this by having fractured sections from previous missions slowly forming together in a cohesive whole. It has been a challenge balancing the need to re-imagine these (incredibly memorable!) Previous experiences, while also providing our players with a completely different experience; but the abstract nature of these areas gave us the license to completely change the look and play of each area.

Of course, we’ve managed to sneak into the usual series of fun Easter eggs, visual oddities, and hidden collectibles (we won’t tell the producers if you don’t …).

It has been a lot of fun creating these unique spaces and it has been a challenge to ensure that each game is unique and consistently balanced, but we hope you enjoy the results! We can’t wait to see what you think of our season 3 finale.
