Nintendo’s latest Metroid Dread report looks at 35 years of history


As we gradually approach the release of Metroid DreadNintendo has been sharing multiple ‘reports’ showing different aspects of the game and the franchise, along with input from the development team. The latest report It has now been located and celebrates the 35th anniversary of the franchise, while also providing an interesting nudge or two and winks asking how the core lore in Dread will continue.

On August 6, 1986, the first game in the entire Metroid series, simply titled “Metroid”, was released as a Family Computer Disk System title in Japan (later arriving elsewhere for the Nintendo Entertainment System ™). This game began a saga about the intertwined fates of the bounty hunter Samus Aran and the enigmatic Metroid species, a saga that will conclude with the upcoming Metroid Dread game, the fifth game in what is commonly called the “Metroid 2D” series.

The Metroid species, an unknown floating life form, is discovered on planet SR388 by the Galactic Federation. Based on the planet Zebes, the Space Pirates steal the Metroids from Federation researchers and plan to weaponize the power of these mysterious creatures.

To stop the Space Pirates, the Galactic Federation turns to the most powerful bounty hunter in the galaxy: Samus Aran.

Samus lands on the planet Zebes and successfully destroys Space Pirate’s underground fortress, along with her mastermind, the organic supercomputer Mother Brain.

GOOD TO KNOW: THE BEGINNING OF THE END (ALTERNATE)

Metroid’s final screen changes based on the completion time. By playing over and over again, you can find out how to complete the game faster and see other versions of the end screen. You can find similar alternate shots on the final screen throughout the series.

Metroid Dread Development Team – This first game marks the beginning of the strange and interconnected destinies of Samus and Metroid, a story arc that concludes in Metroid Dread. This game set the show’s signature mold: exploring maze-like areas and using weapons and skill upgrades to reach new locations. He also set the universe and the tone by introducing iconic music and sound effects.

By the way, the word “Metroid” comes from combining “metro” (in the sense of an underground transit system) with “android” (a humanoid robot).

The original Metroid game was remade as 2004’s Metroid: Zero Mission for the Game Boy Advance ™ system. The Galactic Federation takes the incident with the Space Pirates on the planet Zebes very seriously. They send a research ship to planet SR388 to confirm the existence of the Metroid there. However, the ship disappears.

A rescue unit is sent to the SR388, but contact with them is also lost. The Federation concludes that Metroid’s underground creatures are responsible. Samus is called once more, this time to exterminate the Metroid threat on SR388.

After many deadly battles with the Metroid in its various evolutionary forms, Samus confronts and defeats the Metroid Queen, marking the successful end of the mission. Unexpectedly, a newborn Metroid hatches in front of Samus, as it is the first creature he sees, the larva imprints itself on Samus and believes that she is his mother. Samus can’t bring herself to kill the hatchling, so she takes it back to the Galactic Federation’s Academy of Space Sciences to study it.

Metroid Dread Development Team – The games Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid: Samus Returns represent the first meeting between Samus and Metroid’s baby. These chapters also include descriptions of the Chozo civilization, making them central to the overall story of the 2D Metroid series.

Survivors of Samus’ previous attack have gradually rebuilt the heavily damaged space pirate fortress on the planet Zebes. Ridley, the supreme commander of the Space Pirates, attacks the Academy of Space Sciences and steals the hatchling, known to be the last living Metroid in the universe, to continue the Space Pirates’ goal of weaponizing the species.

Samus returns to the planet Zebes to retrieve the Metroid and stop the sinister plans of the Space Pirates. However, in a fierce final battle with the monstrous Brain Mother, the infant sacrifices herself to save Samus. After the defeat of Mother Brain, Samus narrowly escapes from a self-destructing planet Zebes. The space pirates are annihilated by the explosion.

The Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion games do not have a number in their titles, but the opening video for each game labels them “METROID 3” and “METROID 4,” respectively.

Parasite Attack X

Samus is hired by the biotech company Biologic Space Laboratories (BSL) to protect a field research unit on planet SR388.

The investigation on the surface goes well until Samus is exposed and attacked by the X parasite, a life form with the ability to mimic organic creatures in its entirety. The parasite puts Samus in critical condition and knocks her unconscious. All hope seems lost as the X multiplies rapidly and erodes his body.

Scientists determine that a vaccine made from a cell culture derived from Metroid’s offspring is Samus’s only chance of survival. She miraculously escapes death and, at the same time, becomes the only living creature with immunity to the X parasite.

Aboard the BSL station orbiting SR388, Samus engages in a fierce battle with the SA-X, an imitation of Samus in his Power Suit with full force, and manages to eliminate the X parasite, destroying the station and the planet SR388. in the process.

GOOD TO KNOW: GAME IMPROVEMENTS

In the Metroid Fusion game, streamlined controls like weapon swapping and diagonal shooting help the gameplay evolve to feel much smoother than in previous games. Samus also has more movements at her disposal than ever, like hanging from the ledges.
