What exactly does a game do? healthy? Is it the player’s mood while playing? Is it an adherence to specific aesthetics or messages? Is it the inclusion of birds? Well, you might be forgiven for thinking it’s the latter, because at least half of the games on this list are specifically about birds, but the idea of a “healthy” game is a bit more nebulous than that.
It’s more of a feeling, actually: a game that you can relax with, that can be challenging but never punishing, with elements of friendship, community and kindness. But not always, some “healthy” games (like a certain game about a bad goose) try more to let the player go a little crazy, but always in a softer and less severe way than cutting off people’s heads in Dark Souls. or a Witcher game.
And of course there is always the Wholesome Direct, which is packed with anthropomorphic animals, cafes, camping, and agriculture. The difference here is that Wholesome Direct is just standalone, but our list also includes a couple of the big names.

A Short Hike has many of the makings of a great healthy indie game: talking animals, a message about stopping to smell the roses, and the kind of soundtrack you want to hear in the bathroom. It is frankly charming.
For a game that is nominally a “short hike” up a mountain (to get reception on your phone), a short hike becomes a lot quicker, whether it’s finding secrets, helping people, or just exploring the world. world in your up (and down, and up again).
There are many joyous and wonderful moments to discover in A Short Walk, but the best of all is when you realize that the journey is sometimes more important than the destination.

What do you think of when we say the word “healthy”? Is it a small family of pigs, in knitted sweaters? Maybe it’s an anthropomorphic fox drinking tea? Well, you are wrong. The healthiest thing is a hideous goose who terrorizes a town with a chaotic classical piano soundtrack.
You probably already know Untitled Goose Game, since it came out very viral when it came out, but in case you haven’t played it yet, it’s about a mischievous goose who loves to steal things and honk loudly. It’s goofy, goofy fun, with lots of wonderful moments stemming from the goose’s antics, like taking down a man by stealing his chair or catching a child in a phone booth.
Honestly, the humor of the Untitled Goose Game is what sets it apart – it’s the kind of game that’s all about soft banter and being very, very annoying, but no one really gets hurt or becomes the real butt of the joke.

Pinball bugs may seem more like a job for the vacuum cleaner than a video game, but hear us out: Yoku’s Island Express is one of the most hidden gems on the Nintendo Switch. You are a little beetle and you need to deliver mail; What better way to do it than to dash across the map in a puzzle, pinball, platformer game?
Along the way, you will learn about the island’s inhabitants, their various secrets, and best of all, discover that there is no limit to size when your heart is large enough for the task.

At a very specifically unhealthy time in our lives, the beginning of a global pandemic, Animal Crossing: New Horizons appeared, easing many of our concerns with its candy-colored, animal-friendly vacation island.
Sure, you can play ACNH in a number of different ways, many of which are stressful, like trying to collect all the furniture, terraforming your village, or visiting one desert island after another to try and find Marshal because you NEED him. on your island … but at the end of the day, it’s a game about relaxation, making friends, decorating houses and placing flowers in a beautiful garden that you designed.
With the cooperative functions, it becomes even healthier (if that’s a word), as you can welcome people to your island to trade, display your designs, or just hang out in the charming Museum. If only life were that simple.

Like A Short Hike, Haven Park is about being a bird. Unlike Untitled Goose Game, you are not a complete asshole, you are a very cute little bird named Flint. Flint is the new caretaker of an island campground, and players will be tasked with building new attractions, decorations, and features to attract new campers.
The side quests are fantastic and adorable treats, with a variety of wacky anthropomorphic animal characters and a host of secrets to uncover. And here they are So many from them; of trying to find someone who is Really Good for hiding and stumbling across a downed plane called “Yellow Baron”, Haven Park is full of lovely things to discover.
But the best part? There is a dedicated button for Flint to say “bank”. Pew pew pew.
