Mini-golf holes from the Pixar movie, ranked by Disney-ness
Movies are no longer just movies, they are experiences. Sometimes that experience is miniature golf.
Earlier this month, Polygon employees Petrana Radulovic and Austen Goslin traveled to the west side of New York City to play Pixar Putt, a Pixar-themed miniature golf “experience”. The 18-hole Pixar-themed course put your putting skills to the test (somebody has a hole in one). But as Disney experts, they couldn’t help but evaluate the entire hole experience. There is a difference between a themed hole and an immersive Pixar experience. Obviously.
Pixar Putt starts in a hole tied to this summer Luca, the sea monster adventure set in Italy about friendship. For our putt-putt action was actress Emma Berman, who plays Giulia, the brave daughter of the fishmonger who befriends the sea monsters Alberto and Luca, who shared how she related to her character.
“We are both very energetic and sometimes goofy and clumsy,” says Berman. “But she also inspires me to be so hard-working, and she’s a good friend and a loyal friend, a good daughter and all. I identify with her in the sense that we are both very passionate about our dreams. “(Her favorite character, besides Giulia, also informs us, is Machiavelli the grumpy cat).
Berman does not greet all the guests at the Luca hole, but the tie designs for the rest of the field were on par. As Pixar fans, here is our official evaluation of the Polygon Pixar Putt.
18. The Good Dinosaur Hole
Can you tell which movie this is from? Because we couldn’t at first. I had to look up a list of Pixar movies to find out which one was missing and then I wrote “Good dinosaur gophers?” Indeed, there is it is a squirrel scene in Pixar’s somewhat maligned prehistoric adventure film. In my defense, I think I fell asleep the only time I saw The good dinosaur. —Petrana Radulovic
17. Cars hole
As a Polygon resident Cars Stan ™, I obviously took a photo with the Lightning McQueen themed hole. And although I was very happy to see it, I couldn’t help but think that it had more potential. After all, this is Cars we’re talking about – the hole could be a race track! Or the stretch of desert highway where Doc Hudson teaches Lightning McQueen to drift! Or even just … like tires on a road! The Cars The hole gets points for being eye-catching, just like Mr. McQueen himself, but … immersive, it wasn’t. “Petrana”.
16. The hole in Wall-E
It was really nice, but that’s it. I love EVE’s little smile. “Petrana”.
15. The creepy ventriloquist hole from Toy Story 4
In case you didn’t know, this is a tribute to the 2019 Toy Story sequel. I don’t like the lifeless eyes of this puppet staring at me, but that didn’t stop me from taking a photo where I pretend to be. that. “Petrana”.
14. The Monster’s Inc. hole
This hole is basically a first draft of a Monsters inc. miniature golf hole. Not bad, but not exciting either. There are doors and a part of the course is Sully colored so we knew right away that it was Monsters inc., but the route is narrow and did not allow much more than a single trip to the flag. –Austen
13. The hole of the life of an insect
There is a leaf. The blade is curved and points straight into the hole… that’s it, that’s all there is. –Austen
12. Onward’s hole
About him Go ahead In the hole, there is a truck with a ramp and once you hit the ball inside, it comes out through the exhaust pipe. The only problem is that the ramp is a bit slippery and uneven, which means you have to hit it quite hard, so sometimes the point of the ball becomes strange after it comes out of the tailpipe. On the other hand, this hole featured great thematic elements like flags and fancy decorations, so it makes up some points there. –Austen
11. The hole of the Incredibles
My favorite part of Incredible The hole is that you can choose which member of the Parr family your golf ball will end up on. Interactive! The bright colors really elevate this hole, even if the Omnidroid could be better integrated. As it is, it is there for the balls to roll down. “Petrana”.
10. Buzz Lightyear’s hole
This hole is kind of boring and the one time I did it I missed the ramp entirely and I still have a hole in one. That said, I did get a hole in one and that kind of flattery pays off here. –Austen
AUSTEN THERE IS A HOLE IN ONE HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Petrana”.
9. The alien hole from Toy Story
Toy Story is well represented in the Pixar Putt arena, but this is my personal favorite. It would be better if the claw did something, but as it is – cool concept, could be better in execution. “Petrana”.
8. The hole from the inside out
This is a pretty good hole to play, although it’s not really that Inside out-topic. If you painted this a little differently I’m not sure I can guess. Oh well, still a pretty good putting hole either way. —Austen
7. Luca’s hole
I really like the design of this one, in theory. It goes back to the climactic moment of the movie, where the three boys need to bike down the hill for the Portorosso cup. However, it is the first hole of the experience and it is too difficult! Or maybe I’m really bad at miniature golf! “Petrana”.
6. Ratatouille’s hole
A rat’s sight, nice. This hole is more complex than the Insect life one and the little details like the writing on the milk carton really do it (even if the chef’s hat isn’t the right size, but that’s okay, we can forgive that). The only downside is that I’m really not sure where to step here without accidentally bumping into a knife. “Petrana”.
5. The hole of the soul
This hole is so cool. The cityscape with the piano ladder is a great look, it’s tall and exciting and it fits the movie perfectly. It’s pretty straightforward, which keeps it at the top of our list, but it’s really great. —Austen
4. The Brave hole
This was really a pass / fail type hole. The designers put you a functional archery target for you to shoot your ball or they didn’t. Luckily they stopped by and it instantly earns a spot in the top 5 on our list. –Austen
3. Coco’s hole
This hole involves putting the ball on the strings of a guitar. It’s a fantastic feature and it feels exciting, even if you put the ball on rails. The field also features a massive bridge which is quite challenging as the ball can jump off the edge of the field if it goes too fast over the bridge. Front to back, this totally captures the movie while also being a fun and unique miniature golf hole that would likely exist if it weren’t. Coconut-thematic. –Austen
2. The hole above
This is great! The little house… is supposed to go up !! Like the name of the movie! The only reason this doesn’t completely sweep is we were too intimidated to try because we were scared to break it, but judging from the video footage of people actually playing this hole successfully … it looks great! “Petrana”.
1. The hole in Finding Nemo, my beloved
Now this is what I’m talking about – not only does the Finding Nemo hole look like it was pulled from the movie set, it was surprisingly complicated too! It does not have a specific theme about the ocean or the fish, but it is clear which movie it is from. Also, while it’s tricky (those slats!), It’s still doable for someone as horrible at miniature golf as me. Am I predisposed because Nigel the Pelican is my Counterpart of disneystrology? Maybe. “Petrana”.
All of these Pixar movies are available on Disney Plus, with Luca on Blu-Ray and DVD now.
