Which Pokémon Legends: Arceus Starter are you going to choose? – Talking point

The release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022 was shown earlier this week, during the last Pokémon Presents, but we already knew that the game would feature three returning headlines: Oshawott for the Water-type, Rowlet for the Grass-type, and Cyndaquil for the Type of fire.

U.S strongly I suspect all three options were based on “who loves everyone other than the original three starters”, but we’re still a bit sad to see Chikorita snubbed in this way. On the other hand, the choice of these three in particular could also be a reference to the historical setting: Oshawott is a samurai, Rowlet is an archer and Cyndaquil evolves into Typhlosion, whose name comes from “typhoon” in English and the word for “shogunate” in Japanese.

Still, we are almost definitely We are going to collect several copies of Legends throughout the Nintendo Life team, and with months of waiting until we have our Pokémitts, we only have to prepare. So which of the three new / old starters should we choose?

Cyndaquil

Cyndaquil seems like an easy choice. After all, in real life, fire is MUCH more dangerous than water and grass, and Cyndaquil has the badass ending of Typhlosion, which has the highest total base stats of the final three evolutions. Typhlosion also has pretty good Speed ​​and Special Attack stats, though as a pure Fire type, Cyndaquil’s entire line is weak to Earth, Rock, and Water attacks, which will make the first gym tricky.

Still, the Cyndaquil line is very cute in every way, and is based on honey badgers and porcupines. It’s hard not to love these fierce boys!

Rowlet

Rowlet is objectively the cutest of the three, because he is both an owl and an orb. As a Grass / Flying-type, he’s also the only dual-type opener of the three, eventually evolving into the powerful combination of Grass / Ghost with Decidueye – that dual writing can give you an early-game edge, and also, you’ll always have a companion with HM02 Fly.

Rowlet’s final form is a pretty good option for coaches who want a bit more of an all-rounder, with high numbers on Attack, Special Attack, and Special Defense, but that double typing also gives him the most weaknesses of the three, with double damage from Flying, Ghost, Dark, Ice and Fire types.

Oshawott

Oshawott is an otter, and that’s pretty cool. It’s also even better than Rowlet as a versatile option, with fairly balanced stats and few type weaknesses. However, Oshawott’s total base stats are the lowest of everybody Water-type Pokémon in the series, so you might have a hard time gaining momentum in the early hours of the game.

Eventually, you will end up with Samurott, a samurai sea lion, who looks like a majestic old man. His leg armor is made of swords, his helmet is also made of swords, and sea lions are scary, cool, and very loud. He’s basically a big, loud, wet dog with swords.
