The most important addition to Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer is the combat pace


Sure, new modes, maps, and all the usual items are coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard as it tackles traditional multiplayer. As usual, Call of Duty: Vanguard offers a multi-faceted experience that accommodates different styles of play, including a single player campaign, zombies, multiplayer, and a new multiplayer mode known as Champion Hill. We recently had the opportunity to dive into a traditional multiplayer mode to explore classic team deathmatch, confirmed kill, domination, and a variant on the hard point known as patrol. However, the most important defining factor in the experience is not weapons, kill streaks, perks, or gunsmith tinkering; actually, it’s just the ability to define the speed and pace of your gaming experience before the game starts.

What is the combat rhythm?

So what is combat rhythm? It’s a dial that you set up in your options menu even before entering a game, such as selecting which maps you want to play or which modes you want to dive into. There are three different settings to select from. If you select assault, you get the “classic” Call of Duty experience in terms of participation time, number of players in the game, and more. The other options allow you to mark your personal preferences more intensively. Do you like to just grab a shotgun, do your best, and try to get a triple kill before going down, respawning, and doing it all over again, throwing incendiary grenades in the few seconds you’re alive? Pacing Blitz is for you, with absolute chaos with tons of players in one match and extremely fast participation time. I’ve never seen fields of dog tag pickups like I did in the confirmed kill blitzkrieg mode, a rotary shootout pit where life was short and brutal, but with plenty of opportunities to rack up a lot of points as well. There’s nothing like throwing a few grenades into a room and ending up with a random quad-kill. If you want fast and relentless action, Blitz is the box to check.

If you’re tired of the tastic Call of Duty meme of “Spawn, get shot in the back, spawn, shoot someone else in the back,” then tactical pacing is for you. Smaller groups of players and a significant time for participation mean that you will likely have an intimate experience with one or perhaps two other players; will not let you be carried away by a horde. These options benefit players who want to prepare, move slowly and deliberately across a map, and have centerfights with less chaotic variables. These options may not sound like many, but they are actually poised to have a massive impact on the multiplayer experience so that each player can select their own speed. If you are a 24/7 Killhouse lover, blitz will be your best option. If you want to have some sniper wars, the tactic might be the right decision. Or you can’t change anything at all and just play the assault as usual!

Outside of combat rhythm, squad is a great way to play hardpoint, anyway, and I think I might like it more. Instead of points to be blocked appearing on the map, there is a constantly moving fixed point that “patrols” around the map. Trying to maintain control of that point while twisting and turning around the choke points and exposed positions is actually much more appealing than trying to limit and hold the hard points, and I think this particular version of the hard point experience might find some fans.
