How to get characters in Genshin Impact

[ad_1]

Are you playing Genshin Impact and not sure how to get the characters you want? Well, you are in the right place. This guide explains the systems of Gacha, pity, banners, coins and more.

Gacha system explained

Genshin Impact is a Gacha game that uses an RNG. You may have seen this term in the community and it means “random number generator”. An RNG is an algorithm that, well … generates random numbers. And these numbers are used to dictate the results of certain events. Simply put, it is luck and it plays an important role in Gacha systems.

Many would say that the Gacha system is the controversial part of Genshin Impact. It’s often what draws some players away from the game, and for others, it may be what draws them in. So what is it?

The Gacha system is similar to loot boxes found in other games. Players spend money to roll a banner in hopes of getting the character or item they want. This is where the problem lies for some people, as not continually getting what they want can be frustrating and expensive.

Gacha games are known to have very low fees for their 5-star characters and weapons. Genshin Impact, in particular, has a 0.6% rate for its 5-star articles and a 5.1% rate for its 4-star articles. But in an attempt to address player concerns about being out of luck, Genshin Impact includes a pity system.

The Pity system at Genshin Impact

The Pity system exists to take some of the uncertainty out of the Gacha system. Basically, after a certain number of spins, players are guaranteed to get a high rarity item. In Genshin Impact, this item is a 4- or 5-star character or weapon. The pity system in Genshin Impact works a bit like this:

  • Limited Character Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
  • Standard banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
  • Weapons banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 80 times for a guaranteed 5-star.

The above refers to a big shame or the number of rolls it takes to get a guaranteed 4- or 5-star character / weapon. There is another type of pity called soft pity that starts around the 75th roll. This is where your chances of getting a 5 star character / weapon start to increase.

Pity is transferred from one banner to another. So if you roll 75 times before a new banner drops, those rolls will carry over. Note that this only works if you are shooting on the same banner. Character and standard banners don’t share the same pity. They work separately, and this also applies to the weapon banner.

Now with all of that out of the way, you may be wondering about the different types of banners. Well that’s the next topic we tackle.

Banner types in Genshin Impact

Banners are the categories in which you use your coins to roll. The content of each banner differs slightly, but that difference is the key to making sure you get the characters you want. The first banner we are going to talk about is the standard banner.

Standard banner

The standard banner is also known as a permanent banner. This is because the weapons and characters it contains do not change very often.

The Genshin Impact standard banner contains these characters and weapons:

  • All 4 star characters

This banner also contains 4-star weapons and 5-star weapons. It is generally not recommended to spend all your spins on this banner as it is the most random of all.

Limited character banner

Now we are talking about the good things. This banner is where most people roll as it contains a limited character as well as a “top rate” for that character and other 4-star characters. Rating more means that you have a much better chance of landing that character than those without a raise rate.

The limited character banner typically contains:

  • Limited 5-star character with premium rate
  • 4-star characters with premium rate
  • The standard Banner 5 star characters with no fee increase
  • The 4-star characters (except Lisa, Kaeya and Amber) from the Standard Banner with no rate increase
  • Various 5-star weapons
  • 4-star weapons with no speed increase

The Limited Character Banner also has a mechanic called 50/50, where if you don’t get the limited character as your first 5-star, the next 5-star you get is guaranteed to be the 5-star limited character. Please note that this only works on this banner.

Arms banner

If you need good weapons in Genshin Impact, this banner is one that you will want to try. You usually have two 5-star weapons and some 4-star weapons with a higher rating.

The weapons banner contains:

  • Two 5-star weapons with increased speed.
  • Some 4-star weapons with higher rating
  • Multiple 5-star weapons with no speed boost
  • Multiple 4-star weapons with no speed increase

If you want to know the details of each banner and what they currently offer, click the details button below it in-game to see what weapons / characters you can get from it and the percentage.

Genshin Impact Coins

There are many coins available in Genshin Impact to use on banners. There are primogems, destinies, and genesis crystals. First, let’s talk about the primo gems, as they are the most important of all.

Cousins

Primogems are the most basic but most important currency in Genshin Impact. You can convert the Primogems to destinations and use them to create the banner you want, however this coin is experiencing a drought so make sure you don’t waste them. You can earn Primogems in Genshin Impact naturally through missions, events, daily commissions, and Spiral Abyss. There is also a monthly subscription called Blessing of the Welkin Moon where you can get a fixed amount of Primogems per day for 30 days, but it costs $ 4.99.

Destinations

There are two types of destinations in Genshin Impact: interlocking destinations and known destinations, and each destination has a specific banner where you can use it. Intertwined Destinations are used on Limited Character Banners and Weapon Banners. Meanwhile, Acquaint Fates are used in standard banners.

To get Fates in Genshin Impact, it involves converting your Primogems and / or visiting Paimon offers in the Stores tab. Paimon deals offer minor coin destinations called Masterless Stardust and Masterless Stardust that you can earn by placing any banner.

Crystals of Genesis

Genesis Crystals cost real life money in Genshin Impact. They can also be converted with a value of 1: 1 to Primogems, but not vice versa. This means that once you have converted your Genesis Crystals into Primogems, you will not be able to convert them again. You can also use Genesis Crystals to buy character outfits.
