Tokyo Game Show 2021 recap: Xbox Cloud Gaming launch in Japan


Today, Xbox returned to the virtual stage at Tokyo Game Show 2021 to celebrate the latest regionally relevant news for our fans in Japan and throughout the Asia region.

“We will always have games” was the theme of this year’s show, and we continue to be humbled and inspired by the power of games to connect our community around the world. Today, we were excited to show how we offer gamers more freedom to play the games they want, with the people they want, on the devices of their choice through the launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in Japan.

With appearances by Forza Horizon 5, Todd Howard of Bethesda with Starfield, a showcase of the Japanese creators of Minecraft, a fireside chat with Phil Spencer, Xbox Director, and Shinji Mikami, Director of Tango Gameworks, and a variety of third-party updates including Sarah Bond, Director of Creator Experience and Ecosystem presented by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Xbox Cloud Gaming launches in Japan, Australia, Brazil and Mexico

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, and Kareem Choudhry, Head of Cloud Gaming, shared that Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will officially launch in four new markets: Japan, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. Starting tomorrow.

The evolution of Xbox Cloud Gaming means that gamers can now decide how they want to play, be it on PC, mobile device or tablet. More than 100 games from the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library are localized and playable from launch on October 1.

Cloud celebration with Japanese Minecraft creators

We are proud to celebrate the Minecraft community of Japan creators with a fun display of Minecraft dungeons through Cloud Gaming to demonstrate new ways to play on devices such as PCs, tablets, and mobile devices.

Forza Horizon 5 reveals PC specs

PC fans were given a taste of what to expect from Forza Horizon 5. Players will soon experience breathtaking expeditions through the vibrant and ever-changing open world landscapes of Mexico with fun and unlimited driving action in hundreds of the best cars in the world in the latest and greatest version of the series to date.

Mike Brown, Creative Director of Forza Horizon 5 at and Ben Thaker-Fell, lead game designer at Playground Games, demonstrated a demonstration of the new Surface devices. Players can explore Mexico starting November 9 when Forza Horizon 5 releases for Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PC on Windows and Steam, and Xbox Game Pass including Console, PC and Cloud Gaming (Beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (where available).

Commitment to Japanese creators and the PC gaming experience on Windows 11

Sarah Bond, Director of Xbox Creator Experience and Ecosystem, took the stage to discuss our commitment to creators in Asia, sharing that Xbox is partnering with more than 200 independent developers based in Japan through our [email protected] program, providing a stage for exciting indie games and experiences coming to our platform in the future. Many of these games can be discovered with Xbox Game Pass.

We also provide a sneak peek at gaming with the new Windows 11 starting October 5.
Games can be seen better than ever thanks to Auto HDR, a unique capability with Windows 11 that automatically updates the lighting and color of your games from standard dynamic range (SDR) to high dynamic range (HDR). Windows 11 will also soon be able to load your games faster, thanks to DirectStorage technology. This means that you will be able to experience incredibly detailed game worlds, without long loading times.

New content for Xbox Game Pass: SCARLET NEXUS and more

We also showcase a variety of exciting titles, including SCARLET NEXUS, Back 4 Blood, AI: Somnium Files and Mighty Goose which will be available with Xbox Game Pass.

We announce that fans will be able to play SCARLET NEXUS today with Xbox Game Pass from the award-winning team at Bandai Namco Entertainment in Japan. The title can be played on console, PC, tablet and Cloud Gaming, where available, with touch controls.

From Turtle Rock Studios, the critically acclaimed team behind the Left 4 Dead franchise and published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment showed more than Back 4 Blood, an exciting cooperative first-person shooter that launches Day 1 with Game Pass on October 12.

Bethesda Announces Full Japanese Localization for Starfield – Largest Location Ever for Bethesda Game Studios and Redfall

Starfield is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4.

Todd Howard, executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios, shared that Starfield It will be translated into Japanese and will be the largest translation project in Bethesda history, incorporating more than 300 actors and more than 150,000 lines of dialogue. Starfield comes exclusively to Xbox Series X | S and PC on November 11, 2022. Play from day one on Game Pass.
