Eight Awesome Switch Games From The Nintendo Life Indie Spotlight

Today we present our second Nintendo Life Indie Spotlight, focused on showcasing eight exciting titles for the Nintendo Switch. The lineup included fast-paced platforming, shooting, puzzle solving, and monster fights, and more.

You can rewatch the show above if you have 12 free minutes for some Indie, and if you prefer the words below, you will find our summaries of each featured title.

Toree 2

Toree 2 – Available Now

Originally planned as a fun surprise, the logistics of the eShop meant that this one appeared in the store before. Oh well, we were still absolutely thrilled to open up the show with this old-school 3D platformer. Its predecessor Toree 3D was a success by word of mouth, and this sequel offers an even more refined version of the format. Oh, and it costs a dollar, so it is well worth a kick.

Afternoon Fading (PC first in 2022)

This is the latest game from developer yeo, who brought us Ringo Ishikawa’s friends and Arrest of a stone Buddha. Recently released from prison, in Fading Afternoon you will take on the role of Seiji Maruyama, a yakuza better known as ‘Gozuki’. You’re starting to get old, so you may have trouble meeting your oyabun expectations. Combine complex beat-em-up action with everyday life in Osaka.

When you wake up in a huge alien infested spaceship, you will need to be resourceful to avoid becoming an unnecessary victim. Upgrade your alien arsenal and employ quick thinking and even faster reflexes against the relentless hordes of aliens to give yourself the remotest chance of survival. This looks set to deliver a sleek, fast-paced retro-style capture when it hits the Switch.

Die by the sword

When every potential hit can be fatal, it takes more tactics than brute force. In Die by the Blade, one wrong move can give your opponent the opportunity they need to knock you down with a single swing of their sword. Fight online, but stay calm and take advantage of each and every weakness that your opponent may show, since without a doubt they will try to do the same with you.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon – Winter

Enter an ever-changing dungeon where every move you make is part of the puzzle. You will learn the ropes from your good friend Puzzle Knight as you try to escape from the mysterious Pocket Dungeon. Take on enemies to fight and trade damage in this unique combat system. Group them together for massive chain attacks while grabbing keys, power-ups, and potions to recharge your health. This seems like a fun alternative to the successful IP.

Captain

Put on your uniform, captain! You are lost on the other bleeding side of the galaxy! What’s worse is that the dark forces are on their way to Earth, and fate wants you to be the one who has the only thing that can stop them and save humanity. You’ll need to make allies, of course, but not all will likely make it to the end, and it’s up to you to decide who gets left behind.

Not human anymore

No Longer Human makes you take control of the once famous vocaloid idol now cyberdemon Tsunono, and you will have to guide her on her destructive path to total world domination. With its psychedelic cybergoth aesthetic, freeform combat encourages and rewards aggressive and graceful play.

Dawn of the monsters

Developed by 13AM Games and published by WayForward, this could be the monster fighting game we’ve been waiting for on Switch. Unleash your inner kaiju as you take on the evil horde of Nephilim; creatures who want nothing less than to destroy the planet. With gorgeous 2.5D graphics inspired by Mike Mignola and deep combat mechanics that rival fighting games, this game is a wonder on its own, but a whole new beast in couch co-op.
