Kingdom Hearts’ Sora is the latest Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter to join the roster

Nintendo has revealed that Sora is the final fighter to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

This news was announced today as part of the final Sakurai Presents, and the reveal came as a huge surprise, but not because fans didn’t like Sora. In fact, Smash. Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Sora has been the most requested fighter to date.

When Nintendo sent the Super Smash Bros. fan list request poll back in the days of 3DS and Wii U Smash, Sora was the fighter that fans wanted the most. It took six years, but the day finally came: Sora is now a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

It will be available for purchase on October 18, the same day the game’s three new Mii fighter outfits are available. Like the previously released fighters, Sora can be purchased individually for $ 5.99 or as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass Vol. 2, which costs $ 29.99.

In terms of what to expect, Sora’s default skin is his design from Kingdom Hearts 1, but don’t worry, there are skins for many of Sora’s other games and forms throughout the franchise. More specifically, fans can choose between Sora’s default Kingdom Hearts 1 skin, his default Kingdom Hearts 2 form, Kingdom Hearts 2 Valor, and Sora’s Wisdom Forms skin, the default Kingdom Hearts 3 skin, the definitive Kingdom Hearts form. 3 and Sora’s Timeless River skin from the world of the same name in Kingdom Hearts 2.

In terms of how Sora plays, if you’re familiar with the Kingdom Hearts franchise, you already have a good idea of what to expect. Similar to the Kingdom Hearts series, Sora will primarily fight with his Keyblade, though he can also use magical moves like Thundaga and Firaga.

Sora can also heal himself with Curaga, and fans of the series can recognize his Sonic Blade move which can be used as a horizontal attack or a way to bounce back. You can also use an aerial sweep to bounce back up. Take a look at the whole Sakurai Gifts for more information on Sora’s playstyle.

Sakurai also revealed Kingdom Hearts’ new setting, Hollow Bastion, the home of Maleficent, who is a central protagonist throughout the series. The setting also transforms into Dive To The Heart shape, reminiscent of the dark and brooding stained glass settings seen throughout the Kingdom Hearts franchise (think: the opening play area from the original Kingdom Hearts).

Those who buy Sora get nine tracks from Kingdom Hearts: Night of Fate, Destiny’s Force, Shrouding Dark Cloud, Hand in Hand, Blast Away! – Gummi Ship II, Hollow Bastion, Scherzo Di Notte, Fragments of Sorrow and Destati. Players with save data from the Nintendo Switch version of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory also unlock the special Swing version of Dearly Beloved, bringing the track total to 10.
