The Metroid series, by its very nature, can be a really challenging experience. These games are labyrinthine puzzle boxes of death and dead ends that require you to explore, use your map, backtrack, and familiarize yourself with every corner of their worlds.

Metroid Dread has all of this and also brings a lot of tough boss and enemy fights to the table. To make this experience easier for you, especially if you are a newcomer to the franchise, we have created eight tips to remember as you play.

Tips for getting started with Metroid Dread

1. Don’t worry about collectibles

Metroid Dread is packed with collectible missile tanks, parts, power tanks, and more. You will see these things peeking out from many nooks and crannies as you explore ZDR and, especially at first, very few of them will actually be accessible. Don’t stress about it, don’t let it spoil your fun or slow down your adventure here.

The fact is, grabbing all the upgrades and bits and pieces in Metroid Dread is something that you will only be able to fully do at a very late stage of the game, pretty much the end, and you have a chance to go back and clean up everyone before finishing your game. .

With the constant backtracking that is inherent in this genre, you’ll constantly revisit previous areas when Samus is most fired up and this is the time to take a little walk and see if you can’t get some things done. Also note that the map in this game highlights the position of every collectible you find, you don’t need to remember where they are to go back and grab them later. 2. Use the map

The Metroid Dread map is fantastic as it remembers everything you find, as we’ve already noted, so all collectibles will automatically be highlighted as you find them. But there is more! You can use small colored markers to highlight a specific place you want to get to so that a landmark will appear on your HUD map as you play. 3. Shoot and blow everything up

There will come a point in Metroid Dread where you can scan environments to discover secret routes and destructible terrain, but in these early days, the best advice we can give you, advice that has been true since this series began. is to shoot and bomb every wall, floor and ceiling as you run through the areas. Ruin the place! You will discover collectibles by doing this, but more importantly, it may be necessary at some points to advance the story. 4. Listen to Adam and check his record

Your ship’s AI, ADAM, will appear at some points during the campaign and you should listen as it often provides little nuggets of information on exactly what you need to do next. 5. Counter EMMI

Yes, you are terrified, yes, it is better to run away, but sometimes (millions of times) you will be cornered and attacked by an EMMI as you sneak through their area. When this happens, you will have two signaled opportunities to escape the robot’s clutches, momentarily stunning it so you can run away and hide. These opportunities are brutally difficult to take as times change randomly. However, don’t give up and resign yourself to your fate. Focus and do your best to take advantage of these counterattack opportunities and you can survive a brush with death and get out of the zone you are in successfully!

6. make use of savings rooms and charging stations

Each area of ​​the game has save rooms and various colored stations that give you ammo resupplies, health resupplies, and even full resupplies of everything. Make use of them! Use the map to highlight each one in your area so it can be fixed when needed and please save at every opportunity, you don’t want to have to rerun a bunch of complicated collectibles because you forgot to save your game while hunting for treasures (it was very painful).

7. Find the map room

Each area of ​​the game has a map room where Samus will download large chunks of the surrounding world. These regions will appear as a featureless colored area on your map once you do this and it is vitally important to show you where you should or could be heading next. Make finding map rooms a priority.

8. Control units

If you want to remove an EMMI, you will have to find its associated Control Unit. Rooms containing these mini-bosses can be found by searching high and low around the EMMI zones. Find the control units, kill them, upgrade your launcher and kill the local EMMI so you can freely explore their area without fear.
