Call of Duty: Vanguard reveals Treyarch’s zombies

Sure, the campaign for the next Call of Duty is from Sledgehammer, and you can check out some details of the new story here. But Call of Duty: Vanguard features efforts from various teams, including Treyarch and Raven. It’s no wonder that Treyarch’s years and experience freeing the undead come into play here for a new zombie experience known as “Der Anfang” that builds on the Dark Aether storyline.

Zombies is a crossover and multi-generation game, featuring progression aspects in other types of games available in Vanguard with the Battle Pass. As is the standard, the zombie mode in Vanguard features a four-player cooperative mode. Like Vanguard, the zombie mode here takes place in a WWII setting. Players can access perks, weapon upgrades, and Pack-a-Punch. In addition to items that players are already familiar with, some new items are also on the way.

An item known as the Heart of Sacrifice allows players to choose from a variety of upgrades that are randomized each time they become available, so you must choose carefully to create a powerful build. Some possible powers that players can select offer slow ammo regeneration (and we all know how difficult ammo can be when zombies are constantly coming!) Or special abilities that help you maintain territory. You can change your strategy in each game, so testing a variety of skills with synergistic elements can improve your chances of survival. With the Sacrificial Heart and Covenant systems, you can create things like melee builds, blast chains on killings, and much more. Players can bring a main weapon that they have unlocked from the main game, but other weapons must be looted in the match and of course the Mystery Box will be available for those feeling lucky to have a chance.

And yes, you are fighting Nazi zombies. Led by Oberführer Von List, there is a wealth of hidden and evil lore to discover as you progress through the game. In fact, players can bond with some of the dark entities in the game to gain special powers, such as ice blasts or energy mines. The journey here takes place in the ruins of Stalingrad and a variety of WWII settings, including a Japanese army camp at Shi No Numa. Players face legions of the standard undead, but of course there are also special zombies to deal with, including exploding corpses and giants wielding machine guns. Wow!

The Call of Duty: Vanguard zombie experience is scheduled to launch with the main game on November 5. Are you a zombie gamer? Waiting for tradition and the cooperative? Let us know in the comments!
