Stardew Valley creator reveals his next game, Haunted Chocolatier

Eric “ConceredApe” Barone, the creator of the incredibly popular farming and lifestyle simulator, Stardew valley – you just lifted the lid of your new game, Haunted chocolatier – more formally known as ‘The Haunted Chocolatier of ConcernedApe’.

After dedicating 10 years of his life to Stardew Valley “and counting”, Barone has decided that it is time to reveal his new game to the world. So what about the chocolate issue? “It’s just an idea that he had, and well, a lot of people like chocolate.

This game will go “beyond the ordinary” with the help of the magic ghost chocolate:

“In Stardew Valley, the focus was more humble: living off the land, growing food, and connecting with the people and nature around you. However, with my next game, I wanted to explore more fantastic possibilities … experiences that take you Beyond ordinary. That’s where haunted magical ghost chocolate comes in.

“Chocolate represents that which is delicious. The enchanted castle represents the enchantment of the unknown. Ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important. However, don’t think for a moment that, because this game features ghosts in an enchanted castle is an evil or negative game. Rather, I intend this game to be positive, uplifting, and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley primarily channels energy from the sun, Haunted chocolatier channel the energy of the moon. Both are vital. “

Above all, ConcernedApe just wants it to be a new “fun” game. As for what kind of game it is, here is Barone’s best attempt at describing it:

“It’s organically evolving as I develop it, so I’m not sure where it will go. But at its core, the game cycle involves collecting ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop. Of course, there is a lot more to the game. than that, but I don’t want to go too deep in this early stage, partly because I don’t want to be tied to any particular concept of what the game is. “

It will also allow Barone to unleash a part of himself that he couldn’t within the limitations of Stardew Valley:

“I think this will be a good opportunity, but I haven’t gotten to the good stuff yet. I’ve been working mostly on the ‘meat and potatoes’ of the game so far. But what really brings a game to life is the spice, the sauce. And I haven’t gotten to the sauce yet. That’s coming. “

And although the game is going well, there is still a lot of work to be done:

“Anyway, this is all largely talk at this point. While the video I put together may seem like the game is in an advanced stage of development, there’s still a ton of things to do. And in the way that work, things often fail. They don’t come together until the final moments. I tend to work with a “vertical cut” approach, so it’s easy to put together a video that looks like a finished game. But there’s a ton of content I still need do. So please understand that it will be a while before this game is over. However, I am going to work on it as much as I can. “

Right now, the only platform Barone is 100% sure of is the PC. However, he still has “every intention” to bring it to other major platforms as well.

In a Frequently asked questions on the game’s official websiteThe creator also addressed a few other questions: The game is currently single-player only and has been in development for just over a year.

And while it may look and play similar to Stardew, it’s actually running on a new engine. If we hear any other updates on this upcoming title or an announcement from Switch, we’ll be sure to let you know.
