Nintendo Switch Online N64 games need some work

[ad_1]

Nintendo Switch Online is new Expansion Pack Subscription It was eventually released, giving members who sign up for the service access to a line of classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive titles.

However, according to some people online, the new service is having some initial issues at this early stage, with reports of input lag and frame rate issues amongst the noise. In addition to these more general problems, it seems that some games also have more specific problems.

As reported by our friends at EurogamerMario Kart 64 has a ghost data storage related issue, something that required players to have an N64 Memory Pak in the past, and apparently no workaround has been implemented in this emulated version.

Super Mario 64 is also missing a rumble feature that appears in the Japanese version of the game’s expansion pack. However, rather than being a specific glitch, the Japanese version of Super Mario 64 is Shindou’s which was updated with Rumble Pak support, so if you want that feature, it looks like you will just have to grab the Japanese app. Expansion Pack – So check out our handy guide on how to do just that!

Sin and Punishment, we can confirm after we played it, he has 100% some control issues related to the way his machine gun is assigned. In the original version of the N64, the left and right scroll actions were assigned to the yellow buttons on the controller, and in this emulated version, these are replicated on the front buttons of the Switch. However, the Switch version also has you press the right trigger to fire, which then reassigns the face buttons at the same time, this makes players unable to shoot and dodge to the right at the same time. Not ideal!

In addition to these specific issues, there are apparently some frame rate and sound issues with Mario Kart 64. We have played the game briefly and experienced the soundtrack stopping and starting randomly, so this is definitely a problem, but we have yet to look at any frame rate issues as of yet.

Frame rate issues are also reported in relation to Star Fox 64 and Yoshi’s Story, and Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are apparently suffering from a controller lag, though we have to say for our, admittedly short, time spent on the games in question, we haven’t had a single noticeable frame rate issue so far and input lag … well, we haven’t felt it as a noticeable issue.

In relation to the input lag reports, GameXplain has posted a video addressing the input lag issues which seems to confirm that it is minimal at worst.

There is also a very obvious problem with lowering fog levels in some N64 games on Switch. It is not so much a problem that will prevent you from enjoying the games, it is more of an aesthetic problem and as you can see in our images below, with Wii U on the left and Switch on the right, the lack of fog is doing for some views. quite strange in some places. The Wii U emulation had its own problems in this regard, so neither seems optimal.

We’ve also seen some tweets regarding online performance as shown below, but these tweets have later been rejected by other players, and in all honesty, these are issues that are more likely to be a problem with internet connections from a person if people are not. Don’t experience them across the board.

We’ll leave you with a few tweets that point out various issues as reported by people online and as always be sure to let us know in the comments of any issues you’ve had with the new line of games as you’ll be stuck with them for days to come.
