It’s time to make history your story
The day is upon us, the sun has risen in a new era. The entire team is very proud to announce that Age of Empires IV is now available on the Microsoft Store, Steam and with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Ultimate members.
This is Age of Empires’ first new numbered title in 16 years, and we are honored to have added a chapter to this globally beloved franchise. Players around the world have been engaging in fierce battles, building expansive empires, and wololo for nearly 25 years and it’s exciting to give our players more to enjoy.
To celebrate the launch of Age of Empires IV, we are taking over Times Square in New York by spanning several city blocks with large digital screens, a living diorama, and an augmented reality experience. Share your experiences if you are in New York. For those in London, heading to Piccadilly Circus starting November 2 could be an experience for all ages.
Age of Empires IV has something for all fans of strategy games. With eight diverse civilizations, four captivating campaigns, multiplayer, skirmishes, maps, unlockable videos, Art of War challenges, masteries, and more, we’re excited to see which you play first.
If you are new to Age of Empires: First of all, welcome! Now that you are with us, there are many ways to get started:
- Head over to the “Learn” tab in the opening menu to find our Getting Started Tutorial. Our storyteller will guide you through the game’s foundational skills, like building your economy and going into combat, while helping a group of displaced villagers start over.
- Did you understand the basics? Our “Art of War” challenges, found in Single Player mode, will help you hone your skills and earn medals as you improve the experience you need to be victorious in future battles.
- You can also play our campaigns through “Story Mode”, which allows you to enjoy the challenges of the game, but with reduced difficulty while you focus on the historical journey and the gameplay.
- You can also take on the AI in “Skirmish” mode. Choose your civilization, your AI difficulty, your map and voila!
- Looking to test your mettle against other players? Jump into multiplayer mode and select “Quick Match” or create a custom match. How you play is up to you! From maps to victory conditions, no game will be the same.

If this isn’t your first trip to the battlefield, there are plenty of new features for you to enjoy at Age of Empires IV. Try to place your archers on top of the walls to literally take your strategy to new heights. Place your units in stealth forests to prepare the perfect ambush, your units will even whisper to evade discovery by your enemies. Move your entire civilization around the map while playing as the Mongols and choose your landmarks to grow old and earn additional bonuses.
