Yooka-Laylee: Direct sequel planned

As is well known, the Chinese company Tencent recently acquired some shares in the Playtonic development studio. The latter will have more freedom of action in the future and have big plans – including a new game from the colorful world of Yooka-Laylee.

Managing Director Gavin Price recently said this in an interview with his colleagues at Gamesindustry.biz betray. Accordingly, the financial injection from Tencent granted, among other things, the opportunity to double the size of the development studio. This in turn makes it possible to employ a total of three independently working teams who work on different projects. One of them should be a full-fledged successor to the platformer Yokaa-Laylee. In contrast to the offshoot Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, it should appear completely in 3D. However, further details are not yet known.

Incidentally, Price gave some details of the talks between Playtonic and Tencent. He was mainly surprised by the interest of the Chinese company in his studio: “They liked the studio and what we’ve released so far. They thought they could help us achieve our goals. And from then on it just kept going. Everyone wanted to do it, so we gave it to the lawyers and waited for them to settle everything. ”

The primary focus of this collaboration is on the expansion of Yokaa-Layle into the largest and most relevant brand possible. The future should be exciting for their fans.
