Event caster mocks the angry fans of CS: GO: “We already have your money anyway”

In the final of the e-sports tournament “BLAST Premier” from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the players of the “Vitality” team were repeatedly booed by the spectators in the arena. Event caster Chad “SPUNJ” Burchill (32) had enough of it at some point and spoke a word of power.

The e-sports tournament “BLAST Premier” has existed since 2020 and lets professional teams compete against each other in CS: GO in two different seasons. The seasons take place in spring and autumn and each run for about 4 months.

There are two phases in a season:

  • The group stage
  • Die Showdowns

In the group stage, 12 teams compete against each other, each consisting of 5 players. 6 of them make it to the season finale. From the showdowns there are also 2 groups in the season finals, so that in the end there are 8 teams in the finals.

Finally, the winners of the spring and autumn seasons compete against each other in the global finals.

While the tournament mostly took place in North America or Europe, this time the host for the final of the fall season was Denmark. The spectators were allowed to come to the Royal Arena in Copenhagen and watch the e-sports tournament live.

“Shut your mouth you crazy, real freaks …”

How did the semifinals go? In the semi-finals of the fall season on November 28th, these 2 teams competed against each other:

  • Astralis from Denmark
  • Vitality from France

Since the team from Denmark was of course supported by the spectators from the Danish capital, they often booed the opponents for Vitality when they landed a kill at Astralis (via Twitch).

When Vitality won against Astralis, the host, Alex “Machine” Richardson (28), wanted to hold an interview with one of the players from Vitality on stage – again, the audience booed.

Thereupon Richardson had had enough and directed his word against the audience:

Shut your mouth you crazy, real freaks. It’s Counter-Strike, we’re getting together here for the games folks. Not because of this political fuss. Cheer for your team when they win, but also enjoy countering and questioning. Stop being freaks.

“The good thing is: we already have your money anyway”

After the interview was conducted and the Danish team was eliminated, masses of spectators left the arena.

Commentator and ex-CS: GO pro Chad “SPUNJ” Burchill was happy about it and spoke again. He doesn’t mind booing during a match because the favorite team might lose. However, he demands respect as soon as the players are interviewed and have won fairly.

For the finale, Burchill only wanted to see Counter-Strike fans in the arena. He adds:

These guys dedicate their lives to the game. They come here to chat and you boo them? The good thing is: we already have your money anyway. I hope you have a long line in front of the parking ticket machine. (…)

Burchill received approval from his co-commentator and the viewers of the live stream. During the games, the stream chat also repeatedly complained about the unfair viewers in the Copenhagen arena.

So Burchill and Richardson spoke a power word against the booing crowd and stood up for the team around Vitality.
