After a problematic development phase, Dying Light 2 has finally reached an important milestone.

A sigh of relief for all zombie fans: the time has come. Dying Light 2: Stay Human has reached gold status. What does that mean again? It’s simple: the game is now officially finished and ready to be pressed onto discs. So nothing stands in the way of its release on February 4th. Finally – after everything did not go smoothly during development and the release date was postponed several times. We’ll summarize the whole thing again for you.

Gold status after problematic development

It’s all about this: As insidexbox.de reports, Dying Light 2 has now reached gold status, so it’s ready to be pressed onto discs. So we can meet – this time – as planned on February 4th on Xbox One, Series X, PS4 and PS5 Beat through a zombie-ridden open world. Some fans should now breathe a sigh of relief, because the development was not always under a good star.

Release was planned for 2020: Originally, the Techland development team wanted to send us into the next zombie apocalypse as early as 2020. It is no coincidence that it is now two years later. The development phase was plagued by various problems.

Work on the game was slow and many people involved even left the studio. An insider report, in which both anonymous employees and the CEO had their say, named the causes, among other things, a chaotic management style, poor working conditions and sexism.

Postponement to 2021: After several postponements, a release was finally planned for December 2021. But this date could not be kept either. However, studio CEO Pawel Marchewka raised hopes for fans when the new delay became known. He explained that it was just about fine-tuning. That doesn’t seem like an understatement.

Development team is relieved

Now that the zombie shooter has reached gold status and the release is dry, lead designer Tymon Smektala speaks out with relief:

We are very excited and now we feel like it is actually happening! After so many years of hard work, we are excited and proud to release Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

It was clear from the start that this was an extremely ambitious project, with a focus on a lively open world and a story that players seem to be able to influence themselves to a large extent. So we can be curious whether Dying Light 2 can ultimately keep its promises despite the difficult development phase.

Are you relieved that gold status has been achieved? Did you already have concerns about the release?
