PS4: New firmware update 9.03 available from today – it’s inside


The PS4 is getting a minor new update.

PS4 gamers can download a new update for their console today. With update 9.03, new firmware is now available for download. You don’t expect too big innovations, it is a conventional performance update.

Sony does not usually give detailed patch notes for smaller updates, which is why we have to be satisfied with the only mentioned line in the patch notes as usual:

  • This system software update improves system performance

So there are no major changes or even new content ahead of you with the new firmware.

Such updates are not unusual and are released at regular intervals. Because such performance patches were relatively common in the old PS4 days (and still are), they have now established themselves as a meme within the PlayStation community. PS5 also receives new update: The successor console also received new firmware today (with the wonderfully memorable version number 21.02-04.50.00.05-00.00.00.0.0). But this is only a 914 MB – you guessed it – stability patch.

Update 9.0 was the last “major” update for the PS4 in September, which, in addition to the usual stability improvements, had some other noteworthy innovations on board. Thanks to 9.0, you can finally watch PS5 trophies on the PS4, among other things. However, some fans reported problems with Update 9.0. PlayStation hadn’t commented on this when asked by GamePro.
