I’m celebrating the new map from CoD Warzone, but one thing could ruin it

MeinMMO author Maik Schneider is hot for the new Pacific map “Caldera” from Call of Duty: Warzone. However, some important information about the introduction of the Pacific gem is still missing and for Maik there is one thing that could put a strong damper on his hype.

As a Warzone fan from the start, I haven’t had a good time in the game in the past few months:

  • Fellow players have left the Battle Royale in rows
  • Due to the many cheaters, there is a “but” behind every new announcement
  • New content was in short supply in the first 1.5 years

But the new map “Caldera” gives me hope again. The first trailer and the pictures of the map ensure that I already feel deeply Christmassy feelings and I’m looking forward to spending many holiday hours on the beach-lined holiday paradise.

However, a few important information about the introduction of the map and the simultaneous changeover to the Vanguard graphics from Warzone are still missing. So it is not yet certain whether the consoles will finally get the long-awaited field of view settings and should the feature fail, that would be a nasty damper to my great anticipation.

More about the author Maik Schneider: PvP shooters are at the top of my list of my favorite genres, and battle royale is the ultimate discipline for me. I’ve tried a lot of BR’s and, as a long-time CoD fan, was enthusiastic about the release of the Warzone.

But not enough innovations came into play and, in addition, cheaters damaged the mood in the community. With the new “Caldera” map, Warzone now has the chance of a fresh start – if done right.

New map, graphics, anti-cheat – the hype is real

That’s why I’m celebrating the new map: In the first place is actually the map caldera itself. The island landscape makes a very inviting impression – everything is much more colorful, prettier and in the pictures it also looks as if the caldera offers significantly more variety than the gray Verdansk.

Beaches, volcanic landscapes, villages with straw huts, jungle expeditions – when I imagine a match on the new map, I already think that we will soon forget Verdansk.

My desktop background fires me up every day.

But it is also the whole package. Because Warzone doesn’t just get a new map:

  • Almost 40 new weapons from CoD: Vanguard
  • Anti-cheat system “RICOCHET” is picking up speed
  • Changeover to the graphics engine from Vanguard
  • Aircraft as new vehicles in the “Vanguard Royale”

With the completely new setting and the revision of the graphics, Warzone reinvents itself to a certain extent. I would like to experience immediately how all the changes affect the game and I am happy that almost forgotten playmates are reappearing on the scene.

Since my squad consists mainly of console players, the field of view settings are very important to us. And although I’m kind of hyped, I remain a little skeptical because the feature has still not been announced.

FoV slider is immensely important for the feel of the game

What does the FoV slider do? When I turn up the FoV slider (German: field of vision controller), I see more of the game. My visible image section is larger and I can, for example, recognize opponents at the edge of my screen that I would otherwise not see:

Why is the FoV slider so important? There are several reasons for this:

  • PC players own the slider and have advantages with it
  • I see more of the game
  • Shooters feel much faster

If PC gamers didn’t have this setting either, the problem would certainly not be as serious. But that’s actually not the main reason why I would like to configure my field of view on the consoles. After all, we’ve played with a smaller field of vision for 15 years and had a lot of fun.

It’s more like the third item on the list – a shooter feels faster with a larger field of view. I cover a larger visible area in the same amount of time – so I’m not really traveling any faster, but the larger field of view makes it feel that way.

My actions seem more jagged, the movement more fluid. As a result, I am much deeper in the game, feel more powerful – maybe a little more “professional-like”.

Since the last two multiplayer titles Cold War and Vanguard have the FoV slider on the console and I already know Warzone on the PC, I know the difference in the field of vision when it comes to the feel of the game in Call of Duty. I would really be missing something if the FoV slider didn’t come back onto the consoles.

CoD Warzone: Crossplay is just annoying – and that’s not because of cheaters

What about the introduction of the field of view settings? Until recently, I was actually very sure that Warzone would get the field of view settings with the switch to the Vanguard graphics.

During my research for MeinMMO, a lot looked like Warzone would switch to the Vanguard launcher on December 8th and take over the new technology completely.

This would have included the FoV slider, but also a next-gen version for the PS5 and the “Xbox Series” consoles.

However, I have my doubts about that now. On the one hand, because the developers are so covered on the subject just a few days before the release. On the other hand, because there are first indications of a major update of Warzone in the old Launcher of Modern Warfare.

So at the moment it is not yet possible to say whether the coveted feature will actually be available on the consoles. Unfortunately, that puts a lot of pressure on my hype and if the FoV slider doesn’t come, many other console players will certainly feel the same way.

At the moment I’m still hopeful that the developers just want to keep the big announcements about the next-gen version and the FoV slider until the end.

In any case, I’ll clean my shoes for St. Nicholas this year a little more carefully and hope for this gift from the developers. Otherwise my relationship with the Warzone is already heavily strained at the start of the new map.

I also enjoy reading your comments on the topic. Do you also find the FoV slider so important? Do you think the shot will come with the “new” Warzone?
