Titanfall fought against hackers for 1 year, now disappears from the shops: “Farewell, Space-Cowboy”

It’s official: The 2014 shooter Titanfall will be removed from sale. The fan favorite had long been struggling with hackers, now you will soon no longer be able to find him in the shops. The players are now mourning but not surprised.

What is Titanfall anyway? The shooter is the first big title from Respawn Entertainment, which was founded in 2010 from former CoD developers and belongs to the publisher Electronic Arts.

  • Titanfall was very well received by fans at the time, selling over 10 million units (via ign.com) and was able to win a place in the hearts of numerous players.
  • The shooter has a futuristic setting and mixed FPS action with mech battles.
  • Players could use grappling hooks and parkour to fight their way across the map or be out and about in their giant titans. These are mechs that have different traits and weapons.

Titanfall 2 followed in 2016, which was also very well received and laid the foundation for the 2019 Battle Royale Apex Legends, which takes place in the universe of Titanfall but has no Titans.

A few years after the release, however, there was a difficult time for Titanfall 1 and 2, which continues to this day. Hackers came in and caused frustration. Now the first part disappears from sales and all shops.

When is it that time? Titanfall is still available until March 1, 2022. Then you can no longer buy the shooter.

Titanfall is no longer being sold – are hackers to blame?

what happened there? For some time now, Titanfall in particular has been plagued by severe DDoS attacks by hackers. That messed up the shooter for numerous players, because there is no offline mode in the first Titanfall.

While Titanfall 2 is not as badly affected by the problem, the situation in Titanfall 1 has been pretty bad for a long time. In 2019 it became known that a hacker was up to mischief in the multiplayer of both shooters.

What does DDoS attack mean? DDoS means distributed denial of service. In an attack, servers are bombarded by millions of bots with such a high amount of data garbage that they come to a standstill or are even brought to their knees.

In any case, the responsible person or persons are still screwing up the fun of the remaining player base and making the online modes almost unplayable. If you go after the players, that’s still the case today.

  • The hacker (s) resort to exploits and scripts and fill sessions with bots.
  • Thus, it is impossible for many players to find a session in the matchmaker.
  • The hackers even prevent private sessions from being created.
  • It is currently not possible to start a multiplayer game.

At the time, when the problems became known, Respawn announced that they would take care of them and seek a solution. So far nothing has happened here. Now the decision apparently followed, at least not to sell Titanfall anymore.

Whether that is the reason remains open. In any case, the hacker attacks are not officially mentioned. It wasn’t until July that Apex Legends was affected, with a direct reference to Titanfall.

Hacker attack on Apex Legends, allegedly to rescue Titanfall

what happened there? In July 2021, Apex Legends was plagued by similar and other issues. Hackers attacked the servers and temporarily paralyzed matchmaking. These attacks changed, for example, the descriptions and titles of the shooter’s in-game playlists.

There were also various messages that triggered messages from the hackers. Among other things, it said: “TF1 is under attack, so Apex will be too”. The website “SAFETITANFALL” is advertised through it. So the hacking attack obviously has to do with Titanfall.

Part of the attack was probably a DDoS attack, and some players were temporarily unable to play. The hacker or hackers stated that they wanted to save Titanfall and that they had unsuccessfully tried to make the developers aware of the problem.

Thus, desperate means were resorted to to attract this attention. At the time, however, there were also rumors that the hackers at Titanfall 1 were behind this attack themselves and only wanted to cause further chaos.

In any case, they have reacted to the fact that they no longer sell Titanfall. The players mourn the shooter, but are not surprised.

Players think it’s a shame, “but at least Titanfall 2 remains”

This is how the fans react: Many players react sadly, the corresponding post in the official subreddit for Titanfall has almost 20,000 upvotes (via reddit.com), but hardly anyone is surprised. After the ongoing problems and lack of response from developers, it was only a matter of time for many.

Most can live with it, because Titanfall 2 remains in the shops and is not that badly affected by the problems. Rather, there is general concern that the chances of a Titanfall 3 might not be good.

Because some fans believe: If Respawn doesn’t even care about the older Titanfall games and only Apex Legends is supported, how likely is a new Titanfall?

Ultimately, many just say goodbye and hope that at some point Titanfall will experience the love of respawn again, which it deserves in the eyes of the players.

But what do you think of the matter? Do you think the decision is right? Did you like Titanfall too, or did you never play the shooter?
