Today a new survival game from the DayZ maker starts on Steam – For whom is it worth it?

The survival game Icarus was able to inspire thousands of players in the beta. The next game from the DayZ makers is finally starting on Steam. MeinMMO tells you everything you need to know.

What kind of game is this? Icarus is the new project from DayZ creator Dean Hall and his indie studio RocketWerks and is one of the new Suvival games that you can look forward to in 2021. In Icarus you play as part of a troop that is supposed to explore a “second earth”.

The game has a dystopian sci-fi setting, mixing classic survival with some innovations that should bring a breath of fresh air. For example, time is a crucial factor. You can also be resuscitated by your group.

In addition to the traditional survival elements, there is also the time factor that mixes up the gameplay. It is the wealth of variations in the skill and tech trees that makes Icarus special. You can combine your skills in countless ways and experiment a lot.

You have to face all kinds of dangers:

  • Wild animals are hunting you.
  • Hunger and thirst must also be taken into account in all actions.
  • You are also slowly running out of oxygen because the air on the planet itself is poisonous.
  • Random weather events make your life even more difficult.

In the survival game Icarus, time is of the essence

For whom is it worth it? Anyone who likes survival games should definitely take a look at the game. The game brings variety to the genre with a few tricks.

In the past, the Twitch streamer Shroud has already commented on the game and mine: Icarus has what it takes to be the best survival game of the next few years.

There were also two beta phases before the release. The first ran in August and attracted a few thousand players. The second phase ran until the beginning of November. Unfortunately, there are no player ratings yet.

This is what makes Icarus different to many survival games: The big goal of a round is not to colonize the planet. On the contrary: the goal is to escape from this deadly boulder.

You have to reach the land shuttle at the agreed time in one session, which will bring you back to orbit. If you fail to do this, you will be left behind on the planet. Such sessions can last 10 minutes or 48 hours.

This factor is somewhat reminiscent of games like Escape from Tarkov. You find yourself on a hostile alien planet. Here you first have to satisfy your basic needs such as hunger, thirst and oxygen.

Then you build a base and keep researching new technologies in order to survive until the time of collection.

When does it start? The game starts today, December 3rd at 11pm, according to the official Steam site. (via Steam)
