5 secrets you didn’t know about the mysterious Xur in Destiny 2

Xur is the most mysterious trader in Destiny 2. The new dungeon “Suction of Greed” starts next week and it looks like we will meet Xur more often in the new activities from December onwards. High time to reveal the mystery to his person in advance.

Xur helps the players in Destiny 2 to expand their collection of Exotics every week. He’s also one of the strangest traders out there. Tentacles grow from the face of the official agent of the nine and he speaks in riddles. Those who take the time to listen only have more questions afterwards.

Over the years, Xur has told a lot almost unnoticed. He’s having a hard time remembering, but the players believe he’s still giving a lot away. His statements are strange and strange at the same time:

  • “You have made the necessary adjustments to promote organic life.”
  • “You fought against everything else that came into this realm. Are you going to fight a planet? “
  • “The Eye of Nine is still watching. If you’re here, it means the nine aren’t done with you yet. “

Is the new dungeon Xur’s hideout? It’s time we got to know Xur better. He’s not just an NPC who sells us a few items on the weekend. Players have long wondered where Xur is taking all those fragments and strange coins. To the nine? Or will we in the new dungeon “Suction of Greed” get a glimpse into his world? Countless treasures and thousands of coins are stored there. Maybe strange coins? The fact is, Xur is already waiting for us there.

Reason enough before that new activities on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, start to uncover a few more things. Because Xur’s story is fascinating, and maybe so is his future. These are his 5 most interesting secrets.

Here you can see the reflection of Xur in a mysterious treasure cave.

5th place. Xur is actually “Agent of the Five”

The nine in Destiny 2 are sentient beings made of dark matter. Xur’s actions in Destiny 2 are significantly influenced by them. But even if he himself always speaks of “the nine”, that is strictly speaking not correct. Officially, he only serves five of the nine.

What do we know about the machinations of the nine? The nine control large parts of the solar system behind Jupiter. It is the threshold to infinity. Their existence is linked to the planets there and their inhabitants, the Jovians. What we do know is that they are divided into two factions and live on a different plane of existence.

The planet of the nine and their symbols.
  • Five of you study light in order to use it for your own purposes.
It was they who created Xur so that he could interact with us Guardians. When life ends in the light, the five would also end as thinking beings. So you are interested in strengthening the light. Your agents, like Xur, are responsible for helping those who keep the peace across the galaxy.
  • Four of you want to break free from your dependence on matter-based life and light.
They want to create their own realm through gravitational foci, which exists independently of the light in the dark. To do this, they experiment with black holes based on dark matter and have little interest in guardians and light. That this faction supports Xur is therefore rather unlikely.

By the way: The weapons of the nine are not that mysterious in Destiny 2, but still an insider tip.

4th place. Xur’s appearance is based on planetary alignments

You could say my Xur’s weekly location in Destiny 2 is completely arbitrary. In truth, nobody has cracked his secret code yet. Xur’s statement “I cannot fully control my movements” refers to the fact that he is partly dependent on the nine, partly on planetary alignments. It is never his free decision, and apparently no coincidence either, where he appears.

Unfortunately, the content vault also restricted Xur’s movements. Instead of six, Xur only appears in three places in the solar system. On the tower, in the European death zone and on Nessus.

The players have known Xur for years.

3rd place. Xur is a Jovian and “out of the dust

Xur says of himself: “We came out of the dust and dug into flesh to warm ourselves and became … something new.” In the game, Xur is often categorized as “Jupiter”. We are not talking about the planet Jupiter, but a group of humanoids, called Jovians, who inhabit a place beyond the asteroid belt. It is believed that some of the cells in his body come from Earth.

Jovians are partially human: The Jovians retain the shape of their human ancestors. However, their faces resemble a mass of black worms and light also seems to cause them pain. Just like with Xur. That is also the reason why it is mostly in the shade or dark rooms.

So much light here, I guess I feel pain.

Xur, on his weekly visit.

To keep his body going, the nine control him. Therefore, he himself has only limited control over it. When his physical condition deteriorates, the nine simply replace his cells.

Was Xur a Guardian? There are rumors that Xur was once a Keeper as well. But nobody has ever seen a ghost in him. Due to the current information on the new activities, it is quite possible that we will soon be able to find out more about them. Perhaps Xur is that adventurer who gave up his humanity for a treasure that is talked about in the new dungeon.

2nd place. Prototype Xur, Orin and a space horse

Xur is nothing more than a prototype, a first attempt. It does not have a completely physical form. It was only with Orin, formerly Nasya Sarwar and (ex) girlfriend of the vagabond, that the nine found and created an ideal emissary. The players know her from the season of the vagabond and the prophecy dungeon. In contrast to Xur, she can still have a certain amount of free will and desire.

It is also interesting that especially these three characters, Xur, Orin and the vagabond, have a strange bond. All three know that Stardust or space horse, which you can see in the cover picture.

Titan Nasya Sarwar who later became Orin, the messenger of the Nine.

What role does the stardust horse play? The horse keeps appearing in association with the nine. You can find it on the Badge “you are worthy” for the flawless run from the former Trials of Nine. Here, too, you can see a horse’s head in space.

Orin later shows the Stardust Horse to the vagabond in vision during the season of the vagabond.

So there is not just one connection between the vagabond, the messenger of the nine, and the Xur. The space horse also seems to play a bigger role. Starting Tuesday, players may be able to discover even more.

1st place. Xur was seriously injured by a keeper

Xur did not always have a stooped posture. The nine did not create him as we know him either. His pain and stooped posture was caused by Orin, who later also became an envoy of the Nine, in the past.

Orin (Nasya Sarwar), once a Titan and friend of Mara Sov, Queen of the Awakened, was hired by her to investigate the role of the nine in the disappearance of Sjur Eido.

Sjur Eido is best known in Destiny 2 from the wishing quest. She was the Queen’s first wrath before Petra Venj and her bow and arrow skills were well known throughout the reef. Mara trusted her unconditionally. She was a masterful hunter of traitorous ahamkara. And she was the girlfriend / lover of Mara Sov. However, Sjur mysteriously died during the Reef Wars. She was betrayed and murdered by a stranger, her wishing bow stolen. Mara therefore carved a statue in her memory that is now in Eleusinia (the area in the Broken Throne). Sjur’s identity was somehow anchored in this statue.

She also interrogated Xur about this at the time. While asking for information, she brutally crushes his windpipe. Xur asks them to “forgive them”.

After breaking free of her, he reached into his robe to reveal a silver glass. Orin interpreted this as an attempt at attack and as a sign of hostility. She hits the agent in the chest with her Titan Warhammer, throws him up and breaks his spine in the process.

Xur survived but assumed a permanently stooped posture due to his injuries. The attitude that the players know and characterize him to this day.

Did you already know all of Xur’s secrets or could we surprise you? What do you think, what role will Xur play from next Tuesday. Will we soon know more about him?
