Zelda in Unreal Engine 5: Kakariko has never looked as pretty as in this video

This is how I always imagined Kakariko when I played Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64.

Kakariko from Zelda: Ocarina of Time looked pretty impressive on the N64 for the time, but that’s nothing compared to this video. To do this, a fan rebuilt the entire village from the Nintendo classic. However, the Unreal Engine 5 was used as the graphics framework for this, and with a really impressive result. Now the village shines in new splendor and looks better than ever, completely in 4K with all the trimmings.

Kakariko from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but in 4K and the Unreal Engine 5

This is what it’s about: The Unreal Engine 5 offers a lot of possibilities to design games. It is currently one of the most extensive and easiest-to-use graphics programs for game development. The latest version of it allows all sorts of tricks with which 3D worlds can look really impressive. Of course, this comes into its own particularly well in environments that we actually know in a completely different, much simpler look.

Kakariko aus Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of those video game locations that are likely to be burned into the minds of most gamers. The village plays an important role in the course of the action and we visit it several times, including at different times. But we’ve never seen it like this before and the video makes a little childhood dream come true, so to speak.

YouTuber RwanLink uses the Unreal Engine 5 to make Kakariko look the way we always imagined it – or at least as I always imagined when I was playing as a little mini-dude Zelda Ocarina of Time. In other words, my jaw dropped neatly when I saw this 4K video.

The eye for detail, the many small plants, the lighting, the mood, the atmosphere and how everything moves: At this sight, not only Zelda, but probably all graphics enthusiasts get wet eyes. The stones of the walls are three-dimensional, Navi’s glow illuminates Link and the surroundings, his cap blows in the wind, trees, fog, water and rocks look lifelike. The only point of criticism I can think of is the somewhat restless camera work, but the rest easily makes up for that.

Everyone is waiting for Zelda BotW 2

The open world adventure will probably not look as crazy as this video here, but the sequel to Zelda Breath of the Wild should look pretty in its very own way. When the long-awaited blockbuster will finally appear remains unclear, but it should actually be ready in 2022. Maybe we’ll find out more about Nintendo’s next hit at this week’s Game Awards.
