Halo Infinite: Campaign won’t start until 7pm today, no pre-load available

Halo: Infinite finally appears complete today, including the multiplayer part, but not until tonight.

Microsoft and 343 Industries are taking part Halo Infinite a more employer-friendly launch: The story campaign can only be played from this evening at 7 p.m. Worse still: There is no preload either, which means you can only download the single-player story from tonight. Depending on how fast your line is and how well the servers play along, it can take a while. We’ll tell you how big the download will be.

Halo Infinite: Singleplayer doesn’t have a preload, that’s how big the download is

This is what it’s about: Halo Infinite is out today. Or the single-player story will also be published today. The multiplayer part was released as a Free2Play standalone in a beta version in mid-November. Now there is the complete package, which you can either purchase via the Xbox Game Pass or individually as a full-price title. Check out the trailer:

When does it start? Anyone who took this day off to play extensively should have experienced a blue miracle. In other words: The Halo Infinite campaign could not be downloaded as a preload at all, so you could not play at midnight. Instead, it won’t start until 7 p.m. tonight, for everyone, including the downloads.

  • 19 o’clock, December 8th, so tonight

There are apparently technical reasons for this, but what exactly prevents the preload of the Halo Infinite single-player story is not revealed by 343’s Community Director Brian “Ske7ch” Jarrard. He apologizes for the circumstances, which are likely to be quite disappointing for many fans. Above all, it also seems a bit strange that the missing preload option was not communicated in advance.

How big is the download? If you are one of those people who are longingly waiting for the story of Halo Infinite, you might be interested in how much GB you have to download from 7:00 p.m. tonight in order to play. Fortunately, this information has now been dated Halo Support officially released. Depending on whether you have already installed the multiplayer part, the download size is different. However, there can also be platform differences that are not specified here.

Without previous installation:

  • Multiplayer download without story campaign: 26.53 GB
  • Single player campaign and multiplayer: 48.42 GB

If you have already installed the multiplayer:

  • Multiplayer update only: 3.97 GB
  • Single player campaign: an additional 25.86 GB
  • Both together: 29.83 GB

This means that the downloads are at least reasonably small (in contrast to Stalker 2, which should weigh in at 180 GB). However, it still seems quite surprising that there is apparently no way to simply download the single player campaign individually and without the multiplayer. Not to mention, the full download won’t be available until time of publication.

What do you think about the missing preload and the download size? Did you really want to play a long time ago?
