Activision Blizzard’s breastfeeding mothers say someone stole their breast milk

At Activision Blizzard, women complain that their concerns were not heard enough on the executive floor. An example of discrimination is the way in which breastfeeding mothers are treated at Blizzard (WoW, Overwatch, Diablo). The topic has long been neglected. The conditions were so bad that even breast milk was stolen from the refrigerator.

What was the problem of the breastfeeding Gonzalez Jessica Gonzalez worked at Blizzard in Irvine as a test analyst from 2019-2021. Gonzalez is the founder of ABetterABK, a group committed to making improvements at Activision Blizzard.

She shares on Twitter that breastfeeding mothers encountered a variety of issues at Blizzard (via twitter):

  • The chairs were wobbly and could not be locked in an appropriate nursing position. Many women would have sat on the floor to express milk.
  • The tables were made of wood and so porous that breast milk accumulated and clumped in the cracks of the tables.
  • The technical supply of the rooms was too bad. There was no way to set up laptops so the mothers could work or watch TV series while they were expressing milk. There were too few connections in the room, which are then occupied by lamps and pumps. The situation was also dangerous for fire protection reasons.
  • Too little storage space had been made available, so there was a lack of lockable containers to safely store the pumps. Women would have had to drag the pumps across campus several times a day.
  • The fridges for breast milk had padlocks on them, but they were also accessible to other employees. Some would have chilled their beer in the fridges there. In any case, the curtains and locks would only have existed because breast milk was well stolen.
  • The rooms were not in good sanitary condition. It didn’t appear as if the nursing mothers’ rooms were being looked after by the building cleaning system in the same way as other areas.

A former producer talks about her experience as a nursing mother.

Breast milk was suddenly gone – a crushing experience

Another former Blizzard employee, Stephnaie Krutsick, also said her breast milk was suddenly gone. There were no other mothers present at the time, and only a few women would have worked in the departments at the time. Only her milk was stolen; other things in the refrigerator were still there.

She says someone either threw the milk away or stole it for “scary reasons”. It was a devastating experience for her.

She also felt discriminated against during the time because the male superiors did not understand that she could not always be physically present. As a result, she lost some tasks.

What follows from this? For the women at Blizzard, the situation of breastfeeding mothers is an example of the culture at Blizzard, which is so male-dominated that the concerns of women are not even on the screen. Something has to change here.
