New survival game on Steam starts with 52,000 players – Already added new content

Icarus received its first patch after release after a week on Steam. This delivers a lot of new content. The survival game itself can get off to a successful start, but with problems.

What kind of game is this? Icarus officially launched on Steam on December 3rd, after several successful beta weekends had taken place in the previous weeks. The survival game takes place in a dystopian future in which the earth is no longer habitable.

When the attempt to create a second earth failed, a toxic planet was created instead. On this, however, there is a rare material that you as employees should now collect.

To do this, you keep going down to Icarus in the game sessions, collect what you can and have to get back to the ship in good time. If you fail to do this, you will be left behind. The fauna and the planet itself make it difficult for you to survive. Because everything is dangerous and poisonous.

With the resources of the planet you build tools, constructions and even machines. Your character learns new skills and improves their talents. So you always learn new technologies.

Icarus was created by RocketWerks, the studio of former DayZ developer Dean Hall. The indie studio published the game itself. At the moment there is only Icarus for PC on Steam.

The ratings are “balanced” with 62% positive reviews from 11,067 reviews. That should be related to initial problems: New survival game on Steam convinces with gameplay – Still receives a lot of criticism

First patch brings new content

This is in the first update: One week after the release, on December 10th, Icarus received its first patch. Among other things, this brought new content, including:

  • 3 new playable missions
  • new craftable items on the workbench
  • increased occurrence of certain resources
  • Improvements to the player UI and offline mode

The development team also points out that there appear to be problems with performance and graphics. Should you be affected, the team advises that you experiment with the appropriate options. Do not rely on standard settings.

In addition to the new features, over 60 bugs were fixed within the first week. You can find the full patch notes on Steam.

Icarus had to deal with criticism in advance. Some DayZ fans accused the developer of simply giving up his first game. They now fear the same for Icarus. The ratings immediately after the patch, however, tend to be more positive, which at least now speaks for the development. The Twitch star shroud is already convinced of the game:
