Pokémon GO: City turns Chansey into a mascot, and even builds 4 of its own parks for the monster

The dream of many Pokémon GO players is to meet one of the monsters in the real world. Now Pokémon fans can look forward to it, because a city has made Chansey its mascot and is building 4 of its own parks for it. We at MeinMMO show you what kind of parks these are and why they are being built.

Which monster became the mascot? The Japanese city of Fukushima has made the Pokémon Chansey their mascot. The monster was sent to the region as a Pokémon ambassador for the Pokémon Company in order to take part in the “Pokémon Local Acts” campaign.

Why was Chansey chosen? Many Pokémon fans will know the Normal-Type monster from the original series, in which Sister Joy at the PokéCenter helps heal injured or sick monsters. Chaneira is pursuing similar goals in the Fukushima region.

The pink monster Chansey is said to be lucky. This also fits together with the meaning of the name Fukushima, because “Fuku” also means luck (via local.pokemon.jp)

In order to properly honor the new mascot, 4 new parks are being built in the region around Fukushima, which are connected to Chaneira. As the reddit user Hantel explains, the region should now be made more attractive again after the meltdown in 2011 (via reddit.com).

What is the Pokémon Local Acts Campaign?
The “Pokémon Local Acts” campaign was launched by the Pokémon Company after the 2011 earthquake. It should help the regions in Japan to strengthen their tourism. For this purpose, so-called Pokémon ambassadors are dispatched, who then become the mascots of the respective cities.

The first Chaneira Park is already open

As reported by NintendoSoup, four parks are currently planned around Chaneira in the Fukushima region (via nintendosoup.com). The first of these parks opened last weekend in the Japanese town of Namie. As an excursion destination, it is primarily intended for families with children.

The Twitter user BoonSlevin is now showing the first pictures of the new Chaneira Park. Numerous playground equipment can be seen in the article. Chaneira is not alone, but has got reinforcements from Schlurf, Pii and Fluffeluff. And the first PokéStops and arenas for “Pokémon GO” players have already been created at this location.

According to NintendoSoup, the other three thematic parks are to follow in spring 2022 in the villages of Kōriyama, Yanaizu and Shōwa (via nintendosoup.com).

What is the reason for building the Chaneira parks?
Due to the reactor disaster in 2011, the region around Fukushima has problems with its image and tourism. The parks should help Fukushima to become more attractive and worth seeing again, so that more visitors travel to this region.

Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, entry from Germany to Japan is currently possible in principle, but travelers must be in quarantine for up to 14 days and carry out appropriate tests during this time. (via auswaertiges-amt.de)

This is what the Pokémon community says about the new park

The new park is celebrated in the reddit community. Some coaches who live in Japan have announced that they want to visit the park with their children soon (via reddit.com).

Other users, such as aceallaround, also hope that the Chaneira parks will persist and not disappear again anytime soon. Trainers from other areas also want similar parks:

  • 1337pikachu: “I hope that this will also be possible in other places”

The playground equipment: But the playground equipment in particular is a source of amusement for trainers on reddit. Some trainers find it crazy that the children have to climb up the backside of the shuffling slide in order to be able to slide out over the long tongue. One or the other would have wished for a different design:

  • KawaiiSlave: “I find it strange that they don’t let you climb onto the Schlurps’ back. Instead, they decide that you take the “back door”. “

Besonderes Chaneira-Event: In addition to the joy about the new park, there are also reports from disappointed coaches. The background is the Chaneira event, which took place locally in Pokémon GO at the opening. Some trainers around the world would have wished for this.

  • LuluHottum: “Ok. So the assumptions about a Chaneira Community Day actually related to this regional event? “
  • 1337pikachu: “I would like to have a Chaneira Community Day.”

It is currently not known whether there will soon be such Pokémon parks in other parts of the world and whether Pokémon GO will organize a global Community Day with Chansey. If there is more information on this, you can find out about it on MeinMMO.

How do you like the first opened Chaneira Park? Would you also wish for something like that in Germany? And which Pokémon should adorn this park? Feel free to write your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and exchange ideas with other trainers.
