WoW: We now know how the Shadowlands are healed
The finale of the expansion World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is practically known. The PTR shows the machinery of death being repaired.
In the latest version of the test realm from Patch 9.2 there are fresh hints about the state of the Shadowlands – and how the problems are solved. Someone has to replace the judge of souls in order for the machinery of death to work again. Who that is – and why – has now been revealed.
Spoilerwarnung: The article covers content from Patch 9.2, which is currently only playable on the test realm. If you don’t want to be spoiled, listen to this read here.
What’s the matter? Further chapters of the campaign can be played on the PTR of Patch 9.2. They deal with the development of the Shadowlands. After all, the basic system of afterlife is still disrupted. Without the judge of souls, souls flow ceaselessly into the throat.
In order for the Shadowlands to function as usual again, a new judge of the soul is required – and this role will be assigned during the course of the campaign.
New soul judge is old acquaintance: Pelagos will assume the role of judge of souls in the future. This is a character that players already know from Bastion. He is one of the Kyrians and is still striving towards his ascent – in stark contrast to his soul bond, Kleia, who have already been ascended and made the hand of a Paragon.
There is an emotional farewell to the two, but Pelagos assures that their souls will be forever connected.
the Colleagues from wowhead have already recorded the cinematics that are still in progress:
In the second cinematic we see Pelagos in his new form as a judge of the soul. From then on he ensures that the flow of souls is directed and that all souls are sent to the correct realm of the Shadowlands. The original problem of the Shadowlands is now probably solved.
What did the soul judge “deactivate”? A big mystery behind the Shadowlands add-on was what was actually behind the reddish bullet that put the judge of the soul out of action. That, too, has now – to all appearances – been clarified. As already speculated by some players, this is the world soul of Argus, who was killed in Legion.
In the course of the campaign, the Nathrezim try to pour the soul of Argus into the “vessel” of a new soul judge in order to make Argus an “Eternal” one. The attempt fails and instead Pelagos ultimately becomes the new judge of the soul.
Whether Argus was really responsible for the fact that the soul judge was deactivated is not 100% clear – but the clues now increasingly point to it.
But it seems a little surprising that Blizzard is already revealing all of these explosive story details on the PTR and not – as often in the past – only revealing them when the patch goes live. This now causes numerous spoilers, but in return the content is tested more precisely and the occurrence of bugs is significantly minimized.
What do you think of this “salvation” of the Shadowlands? Is Pelagos a good judge of souls? Or would you have wished for a different resolution?
