Didn’t you get a “Recap 2021” from Twitch?

2021 is coming to an end and Twitch is currently sending annual reviews to viewers and streamers. The statistics were shared diligently, especially on Twitter, while some users stayed empty. MeinMMO tells you why you didn’t get a recap from 2021 and how you can activate it for 2022 – if Twitch does that again.

On December 13th, Twitch wrote a tweet informing that the Twitch recaps will be sent out soon and what you have to do to receive this review (via Twitter). 2 days later the time had come and the first Twitch users received their emails.

When the reviews of 2021 were shared via the hashtag #TwitchRecap, some Twitch users noticed that they did not receive a recap at all. They then turned to Twitch support, who explained to users why that was.

Why didn’t you get a Twitch recap? If you had deactivated the marketing options on your Twitch account, you were automatically excluded from this feature. The reviews are only sent via email and cannot be viewed in the app, as is the case with Spotify, for example.

Where can I find the marketing options? Something hidden in the settings. If you are logged into your Twitch account, click on your profile picture above. This will open an overview where you can find the “Settings” item relatively far below.

Then click on “Notifications” and then on “By email”. There you have to scroll all the way down to find the item “Marketing”. Now all you have to do is click on the slider so that a tick appears – this way you are definitely covered for the coming year.

The whole thing only works in the browser, by the way, you cannot make this setting via the Twitch app.

In these settings you will find other things that you may have always wanted to activate or deactivate.

Are you from this year’s recap locked out? Unfortunately yes. The Twitch support reported on Twitter with the explanation that they cannot send the recap again manually (via Twitter).

Even those who have just switched on their marketing options will no longer receive their recap (via Twitter).

This is what the Twitch Recap 2021 looked like

What does the Twitch recap look like anyway? There were different recaps for both viewers and streamers. Accordingly, viewers had an insight into:

  • The number of messages sent.
  • Earned Channel Points.
  • Most used emotes.
  • Most watched channels.
  • Most viewed categories.

The streamers could see these things in the summary:

  • Most popular categories streamed.
  • How many hours the viewers spent on the stream.
  • In total, the hours that the streamer was live.
  • Followers received.
  • The channel points that all viewers collected on the channel.
  • Most used emotes by viewers.

Unfortunately there was also a problem with streamers: Many streamers only got their streamer recap, but not the one as a normal viewer, even though they had activated the marketing options.

Twitch has not yet addressed this problem and it is questionable whether the affected streamers will receive a subsequent mail.

Community is mad at Twitch

Under the tweet from Twitch support there are a few extremely annoyed users who would have liked more transparency and information (via Twitter). You also want to get a recap without having to select any hidden settings.

They say that the much tweet came too late and that not everyone owns Twitter.

  • xFLX__ is one of the top comments and writes: “There is no confusion here, just frustration at the incompetence of this company that can’t do anything right. Why wasn’t there a banner on Twitch telling you to confirm? Why didn’t you send any emails that we have to select the options? Why did you only let us know TWO DAYS in advance? “
  • Runebee says: “I am shocked that the information is locked behind an email and not something that a user can look up on his account.”
  • Lotagani says: “Nobody is confused. The people who collect their money are upset because they weren’t informed about a great little tool to use to celebrate themselves and their community time on YOUR PLATFORM. Yikes. “

The community simply wants to be informed more about something like that and more broadly. Not everyone uses Twitter and receives such a message.

An early email or a clear note on the livestream page could, in that case, probably have prevented some criticism.
