Streamer Ludwig will not be mentioned in the Twitch recap in 2021 despite records: “I’m sad that I was removed”
2021 was a successful year for streamer Ludwig. He was able to more than double the number of his followers on Twitch and has also broken one of the platform’s biggest records. He is considered one of the most important streamers of the year. Even so, he is not mentioned by Twitch in retrospect to 2021.
How did 2021 go for Ludwig? In March, Ludwig drew the attention of many viewers to Twitch and the media in general with a special marathon. Because for every new subscription he extended the duration of his stream.
Such sub-marathons are not uncommon, but they usually end after 24 to 72 hours. But not with Ludwig. His marathon started in mid-March and ended on April 13th, but only because he had set a limit for himself – it should be over after 31 days.
Even after the marathon, Ludwig was able to inspire over 15,000 simultaneous spectators almost every day. Overall, in 2021 it made it to number 21 of the fastest growing channels and overall in the top 100 in terms of average viewers.
Did Ludwig end up in the Twitch annual review for this? No, as the streamer himself discovered with disappointment. Although he broke one of the most important records on Twitch with his marathon, he was removed from the Twitch recap for 2021.
That means: if people watched him in 2021, they still don’t see him in their personal review of the year. So if you had only watched Ludwig, you would not have seen any stream in the annual review.
Ludwig wrote on Twitter:
I’m depressed that I was completely removed from the Twitch Recap. While I get it from a business perspective, it’s still sad to be erased from the year by so many people. Thanks to everyone who watched me. I appreciate you very much.
Why was Ludwid deleted? The reason for this is likely to be his switch to YouTube, which he made in December. Although he was active on Twitch for 11 of the 12 months of 2021, you don’t see Ludwig in retrospect.
Twitch loses its “golden boy” who broke the subscription record in 2021
What was that record? During the marathon, Ludwig filmed himself the entire time. The audience partake in his entire life. It showed up while gaming, in talks, while cooking in the kitchen and even while sleeping. And that is what the audience honored:

Then why did Ludwig change platforms? At the end of November, Ludwig announced that he would switch to YouTube. Ludwig cited the reason that although he loved Twitch and people referred to him as the “golden boy from Twitch”, he never got that love back from Twitch.
During the negotiations with YouTube, he asked Twitch for a better offer, but didn’t get one. YouTube, in turn, fought for him.

How did Twitch deal with other streamers? Ludwig is far from the first known streamer to leave Twitch. It all started in 2019 with Ninja and shroud, who both switched from Twitch to Mixer.
Twitch even devoted its own farewell video to the shooter streamer shroud, which they also cleverly used to advertise themselves.
They showed the rise of a streamer to the top of Twitch, but also how he donated 100 subscriptions to a very small streamer and said: “This can happen to anyone here on the platform at any second”.
The fact that streamers are now being ignored after their move and even excluded from the annual review is something new.
In general, there has been increasing criticism of Twitch from many streamers in recent months. In fact, more streamers are said to be moving to YouTube soon:
