Story and characters in the second season of The Witcher

The story is supposed to pick up in season 2 where the first season ended. However, the narrative structure is likely to become less complex. What exactly that means remains to be seen, but presumably there won’t be any great leaps in time and the story will be told chronologically. If you weren’t careful, in the first eight episodes you could get confused about which time frame you are in.

Main characters stay the same: In the center of the action are again Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, whereby the focus could shift a little in favor of the Witcher aspirant. In the first season, Ciri was still on the run or on the defensive. Now she’s undergoing tough training on Kaer Morhen, the Witcher’s castle. So it is likely that Ciri will soon intervene actively in the struggles and conflicts on the continent.

New supporting characters: The promo material makes it clear that some smaller characters will also play a more important role in the second season. On the one hand, there is Vesemir, who is an important reference person for both Geralt and Ciri. There are also other Witcher such as Lambert and Coen. In Yennefer’s story arc, the magicians Fringilla Vigo and Francesca Findabair will appear prominently.

Of course there is also an official trailer:

Critics are full of praise

Some media outlets have seen the eight episodes and the pre-launch ratings are pretty positive. Of course, not everything is perfect, but the most important points of criticism, such as the sometimes confused story and some unconvincing costumes, seem to have been addressed by the producers. The success of the first season should also have given the team a decent budget.

Are you looking forward to the second season of the Witcher, and are you going to watch it directly on Friday?
