New World: This is how Gypsum works and this is the fastest way to level your competence

With patch 1.2, the Gypsum and the competence system were introduced in New World. We at MeinMMO explain how Gypsum works, how you level your competence and where you can find the gypsum ovens.

What is Gypsum? This is a new material that you can earn through various in-game content and that was introduced in Patch 1.2.

There are 7 persistent types of gypsum:

• Obsidian Plaster – Earned by defeating bosses level 60+
• Sapphire Plaster – Earned by taking down the final bosses in the Lazarus Instrumentarium and Garden of Origin dungeon
• Ruby Plaster – Earned from the Outpost Rush
• Emerald Plaster – Earned through chests in crafting beyond level 200
• Citrine Plaster – Earned through Boss Arenas
• Amethyst Plaster of Paris – Earned through Corrupted Events
• Topaz Plaster – Requires a special potion that can be made at level 5 tent camps. Then you have to defeat level 55+ mobs and have a small chance of this drop

There is also an eighth version during the winter day. Diamond plaster. You can earn this by interacting with different Trees of Light in the settlements of New World on a daily basis.

What can I do with the Gypsum? Each of these types of plaster can be earned up to a maximum daily. If you have reached the maximum number of each type, you can form a plaster ball out of it.

A plaster cast for the respective equipment slots can then be made from the ball.

If you then use this plaster cast, you will receive items for the respective equipment slot that have a higher armament value and thus increase your competence by 1 to 5 levels. The developers themselves say it takes about 35 plaster casts to move one slot from 500 to 600.

Notice: For each type of equipment (chest armor, leg armor, each individual type of weapon, etc.), only one plaster cast can be made per 18 hours. Each of these slots always needs exactly one plaster ball.

How much plaster do I need for each ball?

• You need 3 obsidian plasters for a ball. However, they also drop randomly from bosses.
• You need 1 sapphire plaster. So you have to complete one of the two endgame dungeons once.
• You need 1 emerald plaster of paris. So you have to earn a chest in crafting beyond level 200. The easiest way to do this is by fishing or skinning.
• You need 1 citrine plaster. So you have to play a round in the boss arena.
• You need 7 amethyst plasters. So you’re guaranteed to have to attend multiple portal events with the Corrupted.
• You need 2 ruby ​​plasters. So you have to play exactly two rounds of Outpost Storm.
• You need 10 topaz plasters. The drops are random, so you sometimes have to farm level 55+ mobs for longer
• You need 3 diamond plasters. So you have to interact with three trees of light.

Where can I find plaster stoves? The plaster ovens are in all outposts, i.e. the cities that can NOT be controlled by a faction, for example in Edenhain or Bruchberg. They are automatically at level 5 and have a symbol on the map, just like other crafting stations

What should I farm every day? It is currently extremely easy to earn the 3 diamond plaster. It doesn’t take 2 minutes and you should use it every day.

The emerald plaster of paris, the citrine plaster of paris and the two ruby ​​plaster of paris can also be reached quickly and easily. Obsidian plaster drops about 70% from named bosses. So you have to defeat about 5 named bosses for the 3 bullets.

Despite the portal run and a chest run in Edenhain, we had little luck with the drops of amethyst and topaz on the first day. Here we have earned around half of the possible gypsum per day in 90 minutes. To make matters worse, the potion only lasts an hour, but can only be made once a day. The effort seems to be a bit higher because there is no guarantee on the drops.

The sapphire plaster should make the endgame dungeons more attractive again, but a group and an orb are required here. That also makes it a bit more difficult to earn.

Improving skills – this is how it works

What is competence? Competence is the armament value in which you get items of equipment, for example, provided that the area in which you are located has the appropriate level. Every player at level 60 starts with a competence of 500. This means that you will get equipment with an armament value of 500 dropped by mobs of level 55+.

The higher your competence, the better the armament value that you get dropped.

How do you increase competence? There are now different ways of doing this:

How does that work with the grind? If you defeat mobs in the appropriate level area and open chests, you have a chance at loot with your appropriate armor value. However, you also have the chance of a drop with a higher armament value than your competence.

The chance is exactly 1% with every drop and every chest.

However, every time you do NOT get a better drop than your skill level, the chance increases by 0.1%. After 990 drops you have a 100% chance that your competence will increase. As a rule, however, that happens much earlier.

Competence will determine your setup value from 2022

Why is the competence score so important? Competency is important for two reasons.

• On the one hand, this value determines the loot that you get in the open world.
• On the other hand, there should be a change in 2022, through which the competence determines the value of your armor. So if you have a breast competence of 520, but buy an item with an armament value of 600 in the auction house, it will be scaled down to 520 until you also increase your armament value.

According to the developers, this system is intended to prevent players from simply buying the best armor with money.

In the meantime there have been some adjustments to the system, for example with self-made objects in crafting. They don’t scale down because that would be a punishment for the players. More here:
