What games can I find here? We have compiled 3 games for you that were only released in the 4th quarter. So these are brand new survival games that you can experience fresh just in time for Christmas.
We didn’t make a distinction between MMOs and single-player, but tried to make a fairly broad selection. So here you will find tips for game sessions alone as well as with friends.
How did we choose? The most important criterion is that the game should be new. We have tried to present the freshest releases possible, which you cannot yet find in the top lists such as our best survival games for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
The aim is that you can discover new things. Accordingly, there are no or only a few ratings. The assessment lies with the author, who has gathered many thousands of hours of experience in all kinds of survival games over the years. The list itself is out of order.
Icarus (PC/Steam)
What kind of game is this? Humanity tries to create a new earth for itself. However, that fails and the new planet becomes toxic to humans. However, scientists are discovering a new, valuable material there.
You should now collect this. To do this, you will be sent back to the planet Icarus over and over again in sessions, where you should survive, explore and collect raw materials. Icarus relies fully on PvE and playing together against the inhospitable world.
Behind Icarus is the maker of DayZ, Dean Hall, with his own studio RocketWerks. Icarus was released on December 3rd for PC on Steam. A version for consoles is currently not planned.
How does survival work? You play Icarus in individual sessions in which you are sent back to the planet again and again. There you have to build a new base every time. Acquired skills and learned technologies, however, drag on over the sessions.
The most important resources for you are oxygen, food and water. You always have to keep an eye on everything and get food or water. The wild animals of the planet and the environment itself with its various biomes are always threatening you.
It is important that you always only have a limited amount of time. You have to be back at the DropShip before it takes off – otherwise you will be left behind. So time is also a factor that you need to consider in order to survive.

Icarus is suitable for everyone who likes classic survival games like ARK, Rust or Conan Exiles, but wants to explore a new approach to the genre. Due to the lack of PvP and the focus on co-op, the game is particularly suitable for groups.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach (PC/Steam, PS4, PS5)
What kind of game is this? Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is now the tenth part of the popular “FnaF” series, which includes several main titles and spin-offs. You play the boy Gregory who is locked in Freddy Fazbear’s mega-pizzaplex for the night.
You will encounter gruesome, living toys and monsters that hunt you. Anyone who played the previous parts will recognize many of them. Your goal is to survive until morning, when the “night protocols” are switched off and the monsters no longer see you as an enemy.
FnaF: Security Breach was released on December 16, 2021 for PC, PS4 and PS5. Further platforms are to follow three months after the release.
How does survival work? You don’t have to pay attention to food or oxygen in FnaF. You are mainly on the run from opponents and have to be careful that your flashlight does not run out of juice. Because if you can no longer see anything, you are easier prey for your opponents.
With surveillance cameras you can monitor your surroundings without having to enter them directly. This way you can see which areas are safe and where opponents are currently patrolling. If enemies come too close to you, you have to look for a hiding place quickly.
You can use colored eggs or toys to distract monsters that are on your toes in an emergency. That way you are more likely to escape. You will have to solve a few puzzles by morning in order to advance.
FNaF is suitable for everyone who likes to be afraid and is into horror games. The series is known for the gruesome, distorted display of actually friendly toys. Ideal if you like to tremble alone in front of the screen in the dark.
GTFO (PC/Steam)
What kind of game is this? With GTFO, the Swedish indie studio 10 Chambers, consisting of many Payday veterans, has created its first own shooter. You play a prisoner there who is supposed to get data in an abandoned research station in space.
With a team of 4 prisoners you will be sent off in each round, i.e. with up to 3 other players or AI helpers. The complexes are teeming with aliens, whom you should better avoid and not wake up. Every now and then, however, puzzles come up in your way like doors that can only be opened through teamwork.
GTFO was released exclusively for PC on Steam on December 10th, but had been in development for years and offered several tests. Console versions are not planned for the time being, as the developers informed us.
How does survival work? GTFO relies on a tactical approach. The only deadly danger is the enemy, which you should avoid if possible. Because ammunition and healing are rare.
The game should and will be extremely challenging and, above all, punishing, in the spirit of PayDay. You should get through the levels through teamwork and consultation without dying.
However, once you have startled the aliens – through careless procedures or alarms – you have to defend yourself. Hordes then rush towards you and you have to coordinate in order to survive. However, the odds are not always good.
One of the big changes to the release, however, were checkpoints that you can optionally activate. This means that a death is not the same as the end of a mission, it just sets you back a little.

GTFO is suitable for everyone who faces big challenges and wants to work closely with up to 3 friends. Especially small groups who like to play games in co-op should check out GTFO.
