Ubisoft introduces NFT microtransactions at Ghost Recon – competition laughs at lousy earnings

Ubisoft introduced new NFT microtransactions in the shooter Ghost Recon Breakpoint. A developer of Apex Legends looks at the sales figures and thinks it is “very, very funny” that not even NFT fans appreciate the items. Even the initial reaction of the fans was terrible. Now the items apparently turned over very little money in the first few weeks.

What did Ubisoft do there?

NFT is the new trend in gaming in 2021, companies are worth billions of dollars – but why?

Ubisoft’s NFT only turn over around € 350 on a marketplace

So the competition is now blaspheming: A developer from Apex Legends looks at the sales figures of the NFTs from Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Twitter. One believes: If the items were a success, they would already be actively traded on the marketplace.

There are two official marketplaces where the items are traded and which are officially recognized by Ubisoft: Rarible.com and Objkt.com.

According to Liz Edwards, only 15 transactions were ever made on one of the marketplaces. It’s about 94 Tezos, which is the cryptocurrency that Ubisoft uses. A Tezos is worth around 3.7 euros – so it would be around 350 euros.

A really insignificant amount when you consider Ubisoft’s circumstances.

Edwards writes:

“Do I understand it right? Ubisoft has managed to create an NFT that even NFT fans don’t want? Because I think that’s … really, really funny. “

The journalist Stephen Totilo steps in and explains that he had taken a closer look at it. 9 items were sold on the Rarible marketplace:

  • all 9 items were available for the new skin of the weapon
  • Nobody bought the pants that take 100 hours of playing time
  • Nobody bought the helmet for which you had to play for 600 hours

In addition, many transfers were probably only made to a certain account: Totilo believes that someone is trying to hoard a particularly large number of NFTs.

At the moment, Ubisoft’s foray into the NFT market does not seem to have been successful. Other games impress with large numbers:

New multiplayer game offers NFT property for 800,000 euros, is sold directly
