GTA 5 and Minecraft YouTuber Kwebbelkop has chosen a completely new direction for his channel. He willingly gives up 15 million subscribers to replace himself with an automated VTuber.

What is a VTuber? The name stands for “Virtual YouTuber”, Which are displayed with motion capturing recordings or animation technology. There are often companies behind these VTubers, but more rarely also individual artists. Instead of a person, the viewer watches a digital figure gambling, reacting or chatting.

15 million subscribers: why is Kwebbelkop giving up?

YouTuber Kwebbelkop, who has gained around 15 million subscribers on YouTube with vlogging, gaming content and reactions, wants to quit. After over 10 years of daily video uploads, the 26-year-old is looking to retire from YouTube.

He has been uploading videos under the pseudonyms Bloo and Jam since April 2021 (via youtube.com). More precisely, both channels are not managed by Kwebbelkop, but by the eponymous VTubers Bloo and Jam, whose video production is handled by a whole team.

Jordi Maxim “Kwebbelkop” van den Bussche surprised his fans with another change of direction: On December 18th, he announced that he would like to end his personal YouTube career entirely and will replace himself on the main channel with a Vtuber.

These are Kwebbelkop’s next steps: The YouTuber’s channel will not be closed, he promises his fans that. Only the host of the channel changes. Van den Busschen withdraws himself and leaves the digital field to a VTuber, in whose development he invested large sums:

Fans had a lot of questions for the successful YouTuber. Among other things, they wanted to know how this can be implemented technically or what the advantage of VTubers is:

But Kwebbelkop says that he will not withdraw immediately. He’s waiting for the day when his second channel Bloo plays enough that he can sit back and relax. He generates around 70% of the required income from Bloo alone. The YouTuber fans have a few weeks or months to get used to the idea of ​​a virtual Kwebbelkop.
