Final Fantasy 14 swaps ugly grapes and everyone is sad

The grapes in Endwalker drive the fans crazy.

Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker may tell one of the best MMO stories of all time, but the community is currently mostly celebrating angular, low-poly grapes. The fruits were accidentally brought into play with the major update 6.0 and have since attracted many onlookers who have found great liking for purple fruits.

The bad news: Square Enix already has Patch 6.01 released, which removes many of the so special grapes from the game, which leaves fans very sad. Why, why and why, more on that now.

The grapes mentioned can be found in the new Labyrinthos area, which you come across in the course of the Endwalker story. Square wanted to be loud here PCGamer Save system memory and therefore probably had an AI reduce the number of polygons on some objects. In the case of the fruits, however, that apparently went too far, because at times they looked like angular ice cream cones with a grape texture stuck to them.

Fans love the fruits: Instead of denouncing Square for the failed model, the community quickly began to worship the wrong fruits. Dozens of odes to the grapes can be found on social media in the form of texts, images and even one Crafting instructions. The whole thing is somewhat reminiscent of the infamous door from Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

So now the grapes have been replaced by a model with more polygons. The fans are in no way happy about that. on Twitter and Reddit tearful, but essentially humorous articles about the loss roll over one another:

All is not lost yet: Those who cannot let go of the drowsiness do not have to despair. As some users testify, there are for example in Wineport still the old versions, with all their rough edges. But hurry, because it is only a matter of time before the next patch comes out.

And no matter what dangers Hydaelyn faces after Endwalker, nothing can shock the population after the grape drama.

Endwalker is overrun

If you’re looking to play Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion later this year, it might be tough. The run on the game has caused massive problems with the servers at Square. Apparently the publisher himself did not expect the great success. In fact, the situation is so precarious that sales of the role-playing game have been discontinued for the time being. It will probably take until next year for things to run smoothly again.
