Timmendorf fears about the ice hockey season

“We were all hoping for a season without any major pandemic-related worries or problems. But this hope is now fading ”, says Michael Weissin, Chairman of the CE Timmendorf. Because after the federal-state conference on Tuesday, it does not look as if the regional ice hockey division from the Baltic Sea could play its next home game on January 2nd against Sande as planned.

Waiting for the new state regulation

“We don’t yet know what exactly is in the new state ordinance that is due to come on Thursday. After Christmas we will have to look closely at what is possible. But in view of the current situation, I fear even more restrictions, ”said Weissin.

Gesine Muus, who as the head of the health resort in Timmendorfer Strand is also responsible for the ice rink, is also waiting desperately for the documents from Kiel: “It is a shame that the state government’s requirements will not come until December 23rd. Of course, we would like to tell people before the holidays how things will go in the next few weeks. But we too have to wait for the state ordinance. “

Ice hockey regional league is working on alternatives

League leader Götz Neumann has to wait for four state regulations. In addition to the Timmendorfer team, teams from Hamburg, Bremen and Lower Saxony also play in the regional league. “Of course the situation gives us stomach ache. But we will do everything to be able to pull through the season, ”said Neumann. “We want to approach this as flexibly as possible. A break at the beginning of the year, a changed game mode, the cancellation of the championship round – these are all possible alternatives that we will discuss with the clubs if the tightened Corona restrictions make it necessary. “

Ghost games are not an option for Timmendorf

Great flexibility will probably also be necessary in the coming weeks. Because one thing is very clear: The Beach Devils of CE Timmendorf – like most of the regional league competition – cannot financially afford a second half of the season with ghost games.
