Destiny 2 nerfts much too strong hammer for the 3rd time – Guardians still kill bosses with a few blows

Titans in Destiny 2 have a good laugh again, especially when they swing the “little hammer” as sun-conquerors. Despite Nerf, the Titan close combat with the throwing hammer is still too strong and clears away many opponents with just a few hits with the right buff stack and exotic. Something that Bungie has actually corrected several times.

The blatant damage output of the titan exotic “Worm God Touch” has often been in focus. It has already had to be deactivated and revised twice by Bungie due to problems with the small throwing hammer. But worm gods probably have their own mind.

  • In January 2020, Bungie stepped in for the first time and deactivated the exotic “Worm God Touch” after titans were able to knock out six times the damage with the small hammer.
  • In August 2021 are Titans then overpowering again. Bungie steps in again and deactivates the exotic “Worm God Touch” again for a revision.
  • Then, on December 7th, 2021, Bungie took part, in large measure Anniversary update 3.4.0, another adjustment to the Exotic and reduced the ability damage when “Roaring Flames” and the exotic perk “Worm God Touch” are active.

The little hammer still hits: Apparently the 3-way nerf didn’t go far enough just yet. Because obviously the little sling hammer is still able to melt a boss with the right buff stack. More and more videos from the community show how well this still works. The little hammer continues to knock everything short and sweet in the gambit or in the dungeon without any problems.

1 Titan and 1 small hammer can kill a dungeon boss without any problems.

After the adjustments, the players can no longer do the mega damage directly. Nevertheless, it still seems to be possible, if the timing and loadout are right, to crack the damage limit in Destiny 2 of 999,999.

This combo in particular makes Buff stacking so easy: Since the separation of charged and uncharged melee attacks, the Guardians can put their melee settings on separate buttons. So the throwing hammer can be thrown at close range and then collected again straight away. That stacks the buff for “Roaring Flames” and “Worm God Touch”.

This now additionally increases the damage: With a double punch shotgun and the exotic tractor cannon you can increase the damage even further.

  • “Double Punch” increases melee damage for a short time.
  • “Repulsor power” of the tractor cannon weakens enemies further and makes them more susceptible to all damage.

With this combination it is then again possible to cause around 9x more melee damage with the small throwing hammer (titan melee attack at the code of the devastator).

A shotgun with “double punch” increases the damage additionally.

Is Bungie planning another deactivation of the exotic? It is currently not known whether another Nerf is planned for the Exotic and the close combat of the Titan. Bungie was also little active over the holidays. It is possible that the Guardians will not expect a statement and possible adjustment until the New Year. As long as that, Titans can still play the build and try out how silly it is to kill bosses in Destiny 2 with a small hammer.

Despite all the difficulties, Destiny 2 is still a bestseller on Steam:

Have you tried this Throwhammer build yourself? Why do you think Bungie just can’t control this exotic? Is a “worm exorcism” also necessary here? Write us your opinion in the comments.
