The selection of gaming headsets with microphone for consoles is large, as is their price range, which ranges from 15 to over 300 euros. In this headset comparison we introduce you to some of the best console headsets, from low budget to high end. We are concentrating on the headsets for PS4 and Xbox One. Most of these headsets work fine with the new consoles, but there are a few restrictions at least with the wireless headsets, which is why we have now created our own buying guides for PS5 headsets and Xbox Series headsets.

Expensive but good: At currently around 230 euros, it is a steep price for a wired headset, but it also delivers the corresponding performance: The Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (2nd generation) is a high-quality gaming headset with a particularly high level of comfort. The bracket has a generous padding with synthetic leather cover. The equally comfortable velor upholstery of the earphones has the disadvantage, however, that there is a noticeable heat build-up on the ears.
Sound like in the studio: The headset is based on the DT770 studio headphones and accordingly offers excellent sound quality. When playing, details come into play that often cannot be heard with cheap headsets. The position of virtual opponents can be guessed very well, which is a tactical advantage in multiplayer games. At the same time, the headset is ideal for playing music.
Micro flawless: The microphone is also one of the top leagues, it reproduces the voice clearly and without interference. It is also equipped with a pop screen and has a flexible boom. The headset is operated via a wired remote control, which can be used to control the volume and mute the microphone.
Conclusion: The Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is the right headset for everyone who doesn’t want to compromise on quality and who is ready to dig deep into their pockets. On the other hand, if you don’t necessarily need the best of the best, you can get wired headsets for a lot less money, which also do their job very well. In comparison to the often more expensive wireless high-end headsets, the MMX 300 does better. So if you can live with the cable, it’s your first choice.

Comfortable: The HyperX Cloud Alpha is based on the HyperX Cloud II and has, above all, been optimized in terms of sound. It is one of the most comfortable gaming headsets, which is mainly due to the comfortable memory foam of the ear pads. The ear pads and the bracket are covered with synthetic leather. Cloth ear pads, like them HyperX Cloud II are included, but are missing. The adjustable aluminum bracket distributes the weight of 336 grams well on the head.
The sound is convincing: Detailed mid-tones nestle around clear highs and are based on a precise bass. Overall, the HyperX Cloud Alpha sounds more balanced than its predecessor and creates an impressive gaming atmosphere in the virtual worlds. Of course, the Cloud Alpha cannot keep up with expensive devices such as the Beyerdynamic MMX 300; For the price range, the sound is very impressive.
Clear language: The microphone has very well-functioning noise suppression and offers good and clear voice transmission. It is superior to most headsets in the price range, but models from Astro and Steelseries sometimes have slightly better microphones. With the Cloud Alpha, the microphone can be removed, making the headset also suitable as headphones for on the go. An additional cable with a Y-splitter is included for use on the PC.
Conclusion: The HyperX Cloud Alpha may offer the best value for money for gamers. Those who only use their headset every now and then might be satisfied with an even cheaper device. But everyone who is a bit demanding and not only uses the headphones, but also the microphone extensively, will find good quality here at the currently best price. The HyperX Cloud Alpha is also worth the money due to its versatility.

Differences in design: The Turtle Beach Recon 70 is a wired gaming headset in the lower price range, which is available under the names 70P, 70X and 70N in different versions for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. These only differ in their appearance and are also compatible with the other consoles. The workmanship is satisfactory, you can’t expect more than plastic at this price.
Good microphone, economical equipment: After all, the listeners have a very comfortable synthetic leather upholstery. There is also padding on the headband, but it could be a bit more generous. On the left earpiece there is a wheel for adjusting the volume, the microphone can be muted by flipping it up. The microphone cuts a fine figure and reproduces the voice clearly and in a fairly lively manner. Those who want even better quality here have to dig a little deeper into their pockets and get the Astra A10, for example.
Great mids, mediocre bass: When it comes to the sound of the listener, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 cuts an astonishingly good figure, especially in the mids, which are important for dialogues, and can even keep up with much more expensive headsets. The highs are also better than you’d expect at this price point. In terms of bass, on the other hand, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 doesn’t get beyond mediocre. Explosions can sound a little mushy here and there.
Conclusion: Especially when it comes to sound, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 offers a very good price-performance ratio. There are small weaknesses in the bass, but overall you can hardly get anything better at this price, because in terms of highs and mids, the Recon 70 makes most headsets in its class look old. In all other areas it delivers at least solid quality, even if you can’t expect too much from the workmanship.
