Dark Deeds: The 5 Most Cruel Quests in World of Warcraft

We’ll tell you which quests in World of Warcraft are particularly cruel. In some WoW quests, the heroes get their hands dirty. Because in the comic world of Azeroth some things are morally reprehensible …

The number of quests in World of Warcraft is unmanageable. But with the thousands upon thousands of missions that are now to be fulfilled in Azeroth (and other dimensions), we are not always the shining hero. Often our character is exploited and sometimes you ask yourself at the end of a quest: Was I the bad guy here right now? We want to shed light on a handful of these quest lines.

This article originally dates from 2017. We updated it again in early 2022.

Surely you could add every second kill quest to this list if you wanted to. After all, we travel the world and are asked on almost every corner to wipe out some tribe or a rival village.

But there are some quests that are particularly remembered due to their content and their moral dubiousness. We present you the top 5 cruelest quests in World of Warcraft.

Do the right thing

Since the cataclysm, many areas of the classic world have changed in World of Warcraft. The former war-torn area Foothills of the hill country is now almost completely in the grip of the horde, which is starting various projects here. The mines of the people are looted and bears are infected with spiders, which lay their eggs in the purulent wounds so that the spiders can then be picked up from the carcasses.

But that all pales in comparison to the Schlickfelder, a large camp of the forsaken that spans a few farms and now serves as a testing ground for the experiments of a mad undead.

The atmosphere inside the walls is oppressive: some people see the abandoned camp resembling a concentration camp.

The shovel – rescue or murder weapon? Image source: wowhead

At some point in the course of the quest chain, a new quest giver lights up – a shovel. This starts the mission Do the right thing with the following words:

You are presented with a horrific sight. Somebody dug all people up to their necks, making them look like they were planted. The ghouls who apparently tend this field of human seedlings periodically jump to the nearest human and devour its head!

You can end this here and now. Take this shovel and “save” the people.

Do the right thing.

And in this case it is “the right thing” to dig people up with a shovel. If you want, you can free the people who then run away. But what if, as a horde player, you actually have no interest in letting people go? Well … then there is an alternative. If you want, you can simply behead people with a shovel.

Horrible? Definitely. Morally reprehensible? … from an alliance perspective, maybe.
