7 new survival games to look forward to in 2022
We at MeinMMO are looking at which survival games will be released in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S or PC. You should watch these upcoming games if you are into survival, horror or the very special kick.
In this list, we take a look at various representatives of the survival genre due to appear in 2022. This includes multiplayer games for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S as well as exclusive titles and single player games.
The selection is a personal assessment of the author with promising titles or survival games with special ideas. You may also find one or the other insider tip here that you would not otherwise have on your screen.
Where the games will ultimately be ranked can only be definitely said after their release. This is how long you will find the best survival games 2022 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC here on MeinMMO.

Dying Light 2

This is Dying Light 2: The survival title Dying Light 2 takes place in a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies. You yourself control an infected person in a city, on which, however, the future of the remaining people depends.
Dying Light 2 continues the extremely popular first part, which has already been praised for its extraordinary parcours inserts and its fast-paced gameplay. The successor now brings many decisions with which you actively determine the consequences for society.
During the story, you will explore the city at a rapid pace and with acrobatic performances to complete various tasks, obtain resources or protect people. A co-op mode allows you to play in Dying Light 2 with up to three other players.
Survival is so hard: Dying Light 2 relies on fast and action-packed gameplay. Accordingly, survival depends heavily on your own abilities. Already in the first part you usually had two options for dealing with dangers.
Either you avoided large numbers of opponents by nimbly climbing and doing gymnastics over roofs, cars and terrain. Or you faced your opponents and fought them. Dying Light 2 also apparently wants to rely on such a system.
As a result of your infection, you yourself are blessed with certain abilities that help you in your adventure. You are faster and stronger than most people, which allows you to enter particularly dangerous areas, which can also be your undoing.
Particularly interesting: There is only one single gun in the game, most of the time you will rely on close combat and flight and mobility. In Germany, Dying Light 2 will only be released as a cut version with less brutality.
What we expect from the game:
- Fast-paced and action-packed gameplay
- Dynamic opponents who react to their surroundings and the time of day and night
- Acrobatic performances
- A good balance between story and gameplay
When and where is the release? With another postponement, the developers have announced that Dying Light 2 will not appear until 2022, on February 4th. MeinMMO was able to get an idea of Dying Light 2 in advance:

Sons of the Forest

This is Sons of the Forest: The survival game is the sequel to The Forest, which was released in 2018. It was announced at the end of 2019 and since then it has been rather quiet about the new game, at least until a new trailer suddenly appeared at the end of 2020.
The first trailer shows how a special unit with the mission to kill “demons” flies in a helicopter. However, you will be attacked by monsters and will crash.
The second trailer then shows more gameplay and shows how well-known mutants and cannibals from the first part are fought, sometimes with new firearms. There is apparently a friendly mutant who acts as an ally. But there is no concrete information about the story yet.
Survival is so hard: So far there is no more detailed information about Sons of the Forest. However, as a sequel to The Forest, it will probably be based on its gameplay.
Eating and drinking would then be a necessity, but the real danger would come from the island’s creatures. The forest is full of mutants, few of whom are friendly towards you – if at all some do not see you directly as food.
What we expect from the game:
- A pronounced horror aspect with mutants and scary creatures
- A continuation of the story from the first part
- Pretty, idyllic surroundings as a contrast to the horror of the island
- Crafting and construction, which were already strongly present in Part 1

Nightingale
Developer / Publisher: Inflexion Games | Release: probably 2022 | Model: TBA | Platforms: PC | Player: Multiplayer
This is Nightingale: Nightingale is set in a Victorian fantasy setting called “Gaslight Fantasy”. It is being developed by Inflexion Games, made up of veterans of the legendary RPG studio BioWare.
You play a world wanderer who travels different worlds in search of a new home for people. Because a magical catastrophe threatens to destroy your old home.
However, these new worlds are already inhabited by wondrous Fae creatures who are not necessarily friendly to you. You should be able to defend yourself with various tools and weapons in order to establish an outpost for humanity.
Survival is so hard: We don’t currently know whether there will be classic survival elements such as hunger and thirst. However, since you can grow fruits and vegetables, this speaks in favor of such mechanics.
Crafting and construction also play a major role. You can build your own houses and settlements, cultivate fields and work with other players to set up defense lines against the Fae. Nightingale also features various biomes such as forests, swamps, and deserts.
You wander through different, increasingly dangerous worlds. The greatest survival factor will therefore probably be the opponents that you have to fight off.
What we expect from the game:
- A unique “gaslight” setting with a corresponding look
- Wacky, fairy-like monsters as opponents
- Lots of co-op gameplay with PvE and collaborative base building
- Hopefully RPG elements that live up to BioWare’s legacy
When and where is the release? There is no official release yet, but we assume that Nightingale will appear for the PC in 2022. If you want to watch the game, you can sign up for the game tests on the official site to register.
V Rising
Developer / Publisher: Stunlock Studios | Release: TBA | Model: TBA | Platforms: PC (Steam); Consoles not yet announced | Player: Multiplayer
This is V Rising: In V Rising you play a vampire and build your own castle. However, this takes a while, because at the beginning of the game you wake up naked and powerless in your coffin and first have to regain your strength.
To do this, you attack people and animals in order to drain their blood and so strengthen yourself. Depending on who you’re sucking out, you even get special buffs. Each server should have space for 50 locks from different vampires.
The game is played from an isometric perspective (“diagonally from above”) and with a strong focus on the combat system. You can fight on foot, on horseback, or with magic. The studio, Stunlock, emphasizes its expertise in arena fights like those from Battlerite and promises that V Rising will be similarly action-packed.
Survival is so hard: Screenshots so far do not show anything about different survival systems. What is certain is that you need blood to survive and to strengthen yourself. But you have to get that first.
You can raid villages and towns, but the people will certainly defend themselves if you show up there. Even wild animals will not give you their life sap voluntarily. If you die, you lose your prey and must first pick it up again.
A special highlight: There is a day-night cycle, which however is the opposite of what you otherwise know from survival games. Usually it’s more dangerous outside at night. However, since you play a “monster” yourself in V Rising, you are stronger at night and the hunt for blood is easier for you, while the daylight threatens to burn you.
What we expect from V Rising:
- a sophisticated combat system with skills, mounted combat and many different weapons
- huge castles in Gothic style to live in and expand
- gloomy atmosphere when we go hunting at night and hopefully really dangerous daylight
- different types of blood to reinforce your own playing style
When is the release? There is still no release date, but a first beta was already running at the end of 2021. A closed beta is also expected to start in 2022. You can register for it on the official website (via playvrising.com). V Rising should appear on Steam, there is no information about PlayStation and Xbox yet.
