The selection of good MMOs and MMORPGs will be quite large in early 2022. Each game is different from the competition. We have therefore selected the best 15 online multiplayer games that we would like to recommend to you. The majority of the games are for PC, PlayStation and Xbox – but we also cover mobile games for iOS and Android.
What kind of games are they? The selected games differ greatly from each other. Sometimes it’s classic MMORPGs, sometimes MMO shooters or a battle royale. Even two mobile MMOs made our list. The order of the best MMOs and MMORPGs is chosen at random.
What criteria was used for the selection? We have selected games that:
- focus on multiplayer and online.
- are still being actively developed.
- are still relevant, as we can see in the interest of MeinMMO’s readers.
- be played by members of the editorial team.

What is WoW? World of Warcraft is the most popular MMORPG in Europe and North America. Blizzard has now released 8 expansions for WoW. It is aimed at solo players who want to experience the story, but also at fans of dungeons and raids, with whom the game is regularly expanded.
WoW uses a comic graphic that has been spruced up over and over again through the extensions. In some places, however, the age shows, after all, WoW celebrated its 15th birthday. In the combat system, it relies on classic tab targeting.
WoW currently offers you two versions:
What content does WoW offer? World of Warcraft offers you the opportunity to explore a huge world with one character and to bring it to level 60 since Shadowlands. There is a lot of content waiting for you:
- countless quests and stories
- a variety of areas
- quite a few dungeons and raids
- various PvP content
Through Shadowlands there were a number of adjustments to the level process. As a new player, you have a completely customized starting area and can then choose which expansion you want to play and level in.
From level 50 onwards, you go into the Shadowlands. A highlight is the choice between the 4 packages. You can join one of them and learn new skills through it. In addition to the pacts, there are new areas, dungeons and raids, Thorghast as endgame content and of course completely new story content.

That costs WoW: Up to level 20 you can play World of Warcraft for free. After that, a subscription of 13 euros per month is due.

Why is it worth playing in 2022? Even after many years on the market, World of Warcraft is still a rock-solid MMORPG that scores with one thing above all else: the sheer amount of tasks.
With now 8 extensive expansions, hardly any game can look back on such a gigantic game world as the World of Warcraft. Regardless of whether you are a passionate raider, like to chase successes or want to let off steam in the extensive system of pet fights, World of Warcraft still offers interesting content for a variety of types of players.
Visually and atmospherically, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has gone a long way and convinces with content that at least every MMO fan should have experienced.
Plots around the well-known Warcraft characters, such as Jaina and Sylvanas, make WoW a worthwhile excursion with many possibilities to lose hundreds of hours of time.
What are the problems of WoW? Probably the biggest problem of World of Warcraft in 2021/22 is the dry spell of new content. Because since the release of Shadowlands in November 2020, no major content patch has appeared. The update Patch 9.1 Chains of Dominion was a long time coming and caused dissatisfied players who slowly but surely had done everything in the Shadowlands. The subsequent updates were also rather slow.
WoW was in a very unfavorable position in 2020, because the “Battle for Azeroth” expansion at the time was not particularly well received by many players. Many new systems that were not thought through to the end or linked to one another, the grind for artifact power and the continuing frustration with RNG caused displeasure among the players.
Shadowlands itself was much better received. Although there has been a great outcry around the Thorghast instance, Blizzard has reacted and made adjustments.
The mood in the game is generally positive, but this is also due to the fact that there is a noticeable improvement every week. However, the mood has been turning negative for several weeks. This is due to the long waiting time for new updates, which many players just suck.
