Some Honda Owners Have Car Clock Problems: More Y2K22 Consequences That Also Affect Microsoft

22 years have passed since the dreaded effect 2000. And more than two decades later, some users are suffering some of the consequences that they expected by then. Owners of different Honda models are reporting problems in the digits that show your date and time since last January 1. A problem that Microsoft is also suffering.

The first thing we knew is that Microsoft Exchange was giving problems to some users who from January 1 they weren’t receiving their emails. Shortly after we learned that the problem is related to your spam manager, where the int32 variable had been applied to store the date. The exact same problem that some Honda owners seem to be suffering from.

What is the int32 variable and why does it affect Honda?

The int32 variable is used in programming and is limited by 32 bits when giving the “orders” that must be processed by the computer. This allows you to run shares whose numbers are included up to 2,147,483,648. It is a way of working that is used for simple tasks that do not require a lot of memory but when applied to dates, due to their own peculiarity, it can give errors in the figures shown by the clocks.

Until the past December 31 at 11:59 p.m., the problem was non-existent, since the number to be displayed by Honda’s computer system was the following: 2,112,312,359. This number is read as follows: years, months, days, hours, and minutes. An encoding that falls within the maximum limit set by the int32 variable, as it is below 2,147,483,648.

Just a minute later the problem became apparent. With the change of year, the value should read 2,201,010,000, a figure that is above the maximum set by the well-known int32 variable. The problem is already known on Twitter and in Reddit Honda Subforums or in specific Honda spaces such as crvownersclub.com.

The problem affects only the date and time of the vehicle and no further problems have been reported. In fact, most of the users have made it clear in the different publications that your infotainment systems or browsers are working properly but they have seen how clocks have stopped keeping the correct time.

Honda is studying what to do

Refering to honda response For this problem, we have contacted the brand and they have confirmed that they are aware of what has happened and that, for the moment, they are studying how to offer the best solution. In their response they also make it clear that these are old models and that the so-called Y2K22 is not altering the watches of the models currently on sale.
