Splitgate is enjoying huge success on the PS4 / PS5 thanks to Halo Infinite

Splitgate continues to enjoy success despite the Halo launch.

Splitgate was released last year and promptly caused a little hype. This was mainly due to the fact that other arena shooters like Halo Infinite were still a long time coming. Now the big multiplayer title from Microsoft is out and you would think that Splitgate is losing popularity. Fortunately, things went completely differently – especially on PlayStation consoles.

Splitgate continues to thrive after the Halo launch

Since Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer appeared in November 2021, PlayStation fans also seem to be hooked on the genre. Because the number of players at Splitgate has even increased since the competitor’s release – especially on consoles that don’t have a Halo, i.e. PS4 and PS5.

In an extensive interview about the first year of playing with The Loadout said Ian Proulx, the co-founder of the Splitgate studio:

I believe Splitgate and Halo Infinite will continue to help each other in the future. There is so much to do with Battle Royale games right now as well [die beiden Spiele] introduce people to the arena shooter genre. […] And getting them noticed is a good thing for the genre as a whole.

The numbers are growing: His thesis is also reflected in the figures. Because the interest in Splitgate and the genre itself is increasing due to the hype surrounding Halo Infinite. The shooter is particularly popular on PlayStation consoles.

How are you 2022 further? Proulx says nothing about direct content in the interview. However, the studio wants to finally end the open beta. The full launch was actually planned for 2021.

More about Splitgate:

If you’re playing on Xbox, you can of course switch directly to Halo Infinite. In addition to the multiplayer, Microsoft’s shooter also offers a campaign. In this you have to face the Banished as Master Chief, a new faction that threatens the whole universe. You can read why the campaign is convincing despite its weaknesses in the GamePro-Test.

Do you prefer to play Splitgate or do you prefer Halo for your daily dose of multiplayer action?
