E3 2022 will again only take place digitally – what that means for you

E3 will probably only be an online event in 2022.

2022 should actually mark a return to normal in many areas of life. How the corona pandemic will develop will have to wait a while – at least when it comes to large events. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will again not admit viewers this year.

In what form will E3 2022 then take place?

“Due to the ongoing health risks related to COVID-19 and its effects on the safety of exhibitors and visitors, E3 2022 will take place without personal contact,” the ESA told Gamesbeat. Despite everything, the organizers are very positive about the future of the entertainment fair. More details are to follow soon.

Is the E3 2022 now canceled? A final decision by ESA is still pending, but the statements suggest that there will be a digital show again this year: “We are looking forward to the possibility of an online event.” As early as 2021, the E3 took place as an online Trade fair took place after it had to be completely canceled in 2020 due to too short lead times. This year we could only expect streams with announcements from the publishers again.

It is noticeable that some organizers in the USA are quite confident again to allow visitors to their events. For example, CES 2022 took place a few days ago in Las Vegas. And also for the GDC 2022, which is planned for March, the public should be admitted. The E3 would, however, be of a different caliber in terms of visitor numbers.

The E3 now has quite a bit of competition

Who is there? If the event from last year can be used as an indicator, some large publishers will probably again take part in E3 2022. Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Square Enix and more had their own presentations with various new announcements.

However, more and more companies are now saving themselves an appearance. Sony, for example, mainly builds on its own shows. And Geoff Keighley, who moderated the pre-show last year, recently expressed himself critically about the course of E3. It remains to be seen whether his Summer Game Fest 2022 will serve as the opener for E3.

Do you think E3 2022 can deliver online, or should the event be canceled entirely?
