GameStop will soon open an NFT shop for digital goods

An online market for the retail giant: if the plan is implemented, a trading platform for NFT properties will be created this year.

After some well-known publishers such as Ubisoft and Square Enix, the retail chain GameStop has now announced that it is entering the NFT business. Like the magazine The Wall Street Journal wants to hear from insiders, the trader plans to open a huge digital marketplace where NFTs (digital, non-exchangeable objects) can be traded.

GameStop also seems to have noticed the increased interest in NFTs and cryptocurrencies. With this venture, the company seems to want to rush forward in order to become the first large NFT dealer in the world. In order for this to be a success, GameStop is planning various partnerships with companies that specialize in crypto currency. In addition, more than 20 employees are said to have been hired to devote themselves to the project.

When should the marketplace open? According to the report, GameStop’s marketplace is due to start at the end of 2022. One already exists Website, on which game developers, brands and companies, among others, can register in order to participate in the project.

What are NFTs? These are digital objects to which a right of ownership is linked. In this way, goods can be sold to other players after they have been purchased. The digital objects include, for example, pictures or cosmetic items in games.

NFTs are already integrated in the first games

There are already titles in which we can find NFTs. Axie Infinity, for example, was the first PC game in which the digital goods were implemented with their own ID. Fans are less attracted to NFTs

Most players are currently rather negative about the topic of NFTs. The criticism became so great that the development studio behind Stalker 2 decided to drop the plans for NFT items in the game.

If the NFT goods should prevail in the future, the GameStop marketplace would be a platform on which the digital objects can be traded. But we can currently only guess to what extent the technology will prevail.
