What is the meaning of IP68, IP67 rating of the phone

IP68, IP67 Meaning: Smartphone makers are constantly increasing the physical features in the phone along with the internal features. Imagine if you bring a new smartphone and put it on the table and someone spills a glass of water on the table and your phone gets drenched in it and gets spoiled. This would be very dangerous. That is why companies are now engaged in making phones waterproof and dust proof. Right now this feature is available in premium phones such as iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

A rating is given for the phone being waterproof and dust proof. Some phones should avoid water completely. For a phone you’ve recently purchased, you’ll find terms like “water-resistant” as well as the now common IP67, IP68 or IPX8 ratings. But what do those ratings really mean and how waterproof is your expensive new phone? We are giving you complete information about it here.

The first number in the rating code indicates the degree of protection provided against the ingress of solid objects, such as fingers or dust. These protection levels range from 0 to 6. The second number indicates the degree of protection against moisture or liquid ingress, with protection levels ranging from 0 to 8.

Sometimes you’ll see an IP rating with a number replaced by an X, such as IPX8. In this example, a company did not provide test details, so the rating number is replaced with an X. An IPX8-rated device can survive being submerged in water, but it is not officially rated for any dust protection.
