Fortnite players want old feature back: “New llamas are a trap”

After about half a year, Fortnite players seem to have had enough of fleeing llamas. They ask: Can we have the old ones back, please?

What are loot llamas? The Loot Llamas have been in Fortnite since 2018. They perform a similar function as the normal loot boxes, but are much rarer. In addition, they mainly offer support items such as building materials, potions, ammunition and the like in large quantities.

This can be damn useful, especially in the late stages of a battle royale round.

There used to be 3 llamas per match on the map, waiting to be found. If you got one, you had to take some time to open it – but at least that was done quietly and secretly. But at the start of Season 7 – Chapter 2 in summer 2021, a change was made.

Not only can you now find more llamas per match – they also run away!

That changed with the lamas: If the llamas were just rare, stationary special boxes before the change, they are now living beings that startle when you approach them. Then they jump off and try to escape the loot-hungry players.

In this case, all you have to do is shoot the living piñata until it is defeated and all of its loot drops.

• It is very helpful that the llamas keep dropping items that can be bagged during the escape. You can also easily follow them with the audio visualization.
• However, there is only a limited amount of time to catch the llama from the start of the chase. If you take too long, it teleports away and is gone forever.

In addition, the llamas have a lot of life points and can therefore eat a lot of ammunition at first. Overall, they are much more difficult to use than before Season 7 – Chapter 2.

And that seems to get angry with some players now.

Criticism of Fleeing Llamas – Are They Too “Dangerous”?

This is what the community says: In Fortnite-Subreddit (via reddit) a post with over 2,000 upvotes and more than 250 comments is currently being discussed with the title “Can we finally have the old loot llamas back?” reads.

User “CorbinMar” criticized several points of the current lamas. It would take too much ammunition to kill them and try to attract other players as well. In the worst case, you can hardly fight them if you have just used your ammunition on the llama, but at the last moment it teleported away (via reddit).

There is a lot of approval for the post in the comments:

• “I used to open llamas before they started moving. But now I don’t even bother. I just get snipped or dismantled by the MK7 while I hunt it ”,“ Sk49captain ”has had bad experiences (via reddit).

• “In the beginning it was funny, the second time it wasn’t so funny and after that it was just annoying. It’s even worse when they suddenly teleport into nowhere. I don’t know why it even exists, ”says user pizzaredditor (via reddit).

How do players solve the problem? While many players say they’d rather skip the llamas now, some write that they still find the loot exciting enough to take the risk.

One solution to the “escape problem” is to sneak up on and then use building materials to build a cage around the Loot Lama. However, this is not exactly easy for beginners and, in the worst case, the llama can still escape quickly enough before you have tinkered your box.

Another solution is to limit yourself to the loot that the llama drops while escaping and not to shoot at all. But then you only get a fraction of the possible loot.
