Twitch bans top streamers – colleagues are shocked by the severity of the punishment

The top streamer Disguised Toast was recently banned on Twitch. The reasons were probably similar to those of the recently banned streamer Pokimane: He watched TV series live on the stream and apparently received a copyright complaint. But the duration of the ban horrifies the Twitch community.

Who is Disguised Toast? Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang is a Canadian streamer. He started his career on YouTube, was live on Facebook for a while, and returned to Twitch in 2021. There he has 2.4 million followers and an average of 10,000 viewers. He is a well-known strategy fox and for years only appeared with a weird toast mask.

This is the spell: Disguised Toast was recently known for watching anime series live on stream together with its viewers. But only 20 minutes before the finale of the series Death Note, his account was suddenly blocked and Toast banned.

“They really could have waited another 20 minutes,” Toast stated laconically on Twitter when the ban became public on the night from Monday to Tuesday.

Toast penalty 15 times higher than Pokimane’s

What were the reasons for the ban? Apparently, Toast has become the latest celebrity victim of copyright infringement bans. Because the Death Note series is not freely accessible and is actually only available to paying customers.

By making the series available to fans for free, Toast clearly committed a copyright infringement.

If Twitch receives a copyright complaint (DMCA strike), you are obliged to act and prevent the copyright infringement. This has been known at the latest since the music industry focused on Twitch during the corona pandemic

This made Toast the same thing that caused my colleague and Twitch partner Pokimane to be banned shortly before. She also streamed the series Avatar: The Last Airbender live and was banned for it.

How long has toast been gone now? Since Pokimane was only gone for 48 hours, fans assumed a similarly short ban. But a recent tweet from the streamer spoke of a month!

That in turn is 15 times as long as the spell of Pokimane. Some streamer colleagues are appalled at the level of this penalty.

Among others, the top streamers HasanAbi and Asmongold expressed their condolences. Valkyrae demanded loudly “Free toast!” And streamer Ludwig suggested we go climbing in the mountains for the month.

xQc gives toast: “It’s much worse than me”

Curiously, the ban on Toast came shortly after an angry stream from the xQc streamer. He was criticized and ridiculed online for streaming protected material. In his stream, he complained that he was being treated unfairly because Toast had streamed a lot more copyright content live.

What is the background? One reason for the unusually long ban could be that Toast was one of the first streamers who established the streaming of series and operated it excessively.

Among other things, he streamed complete episodes of the series Naruto and so far did not seem to care that this content is actually protected by copyrights.

Incidentally, top streamer Ludwig, among others, has long warned that such actions could have drastic consequences.
